When Canada turns 150, I iumu County
will be celebrating 100 yeah of plowing as
it hosts the 2017 International Plowing
Match.
A committee from the Iluron Plow-
men's Association returned from the
annual convention of the Ontario Plow-
men's Association in Stratford recently as
the successful bidders for the 2017 IPM,
says spokesperson Melissa Spading.
"It's great news," she says. "We have a
big plowing contingent in 1 luron County
and we wanted to host the 2017 thatch to
give back to the community. We're hoping
it will be good for economic development
in the county.'
Sparling, an Ontario Queen of the Fur-
row in 2010 from 1 luron County, says a
small working group has leen planning to
make the hid for a little more than a year
and presented to 1 iuron County Council
in January for the financial support of
$100,000 in seed money.
"Our hope is to bring lots of people to
Iluron County," she says. "We told the
Ontario Plowmen's Association what
1 luron County has to offer with its huge
agricultural community, its keen, inter-
ested people and its tons of entertain-
ment with theatres, music and Tots of
good places to eat. I think they were
impressed."

Bluewater Health wants to make shots
mandatory by next flu season
QMI Agency
The union representing registered
nurses in Ontario is against manda-
tory flu shots, calling it a human rights
issue.
Vicki McKenna, with the Ontario
Nurses' Association (DNA), was
responding to Bluewater health's
announcement earlier this year that it
intends to make flit shots mandatory
for workers at hospitals 111 Sarnia and
Pet mita.
"1 personally always get a flit shot; 1
have ever since there were flu shots,"
said McKenna, the union's first vice
president and a nurse for more than
30 years.
"But that's my personal decision,"
she said, noting some people can't
receive flit shots because of allergies;
others because of things like religious
objections.
ONA has clauses in collective agree-
ments with hospitals that say nurses
without flu shots will be reassigned
