Lambton Shores Heritage Awareness Plaque awarded
Horne deemed worthy
Ar of historical note in
Lambton Shores.
Lakeshore Advance
Rosanne and Robert Sitlington's home
at 16 Morris St., Forest has qualified for a
Lambton Shores I leritage Awareness
Plaque.
Renovations and additions have
changed the home's structure, but the
original rough -sawn rafters still support
the roof and the Heritage Awareness
Plaque Committee deemed the home
worthy of historical note in Lambton
hores. The I leritage Awareness Plaque
Committee is a subcommittee of Lamb -
ton Shores Communities in Bloom, which
believes honouring our historical build-
ings expands our sense of community.
A plaque showing the construction
year and name of the first owner will be
displayed at the Sitlington home helping
to bring our local history alive.
Sitlington's application revealed,
among other interesting facts, that Morris
St. was possibly named from the plan
bearing the name of the home's builder,
Morris Williams. Williams had purchased
15 acres of land from Joseph I laldsworth
in 1868, surveyed the property in 1875
and built the Sitlington's wood -frame
home there in 1876.
Any building constructed in Lambton
Shores in 1920 or before is eligible for
consideration of a I leritage Awareness
Plaque.
The I leritage Awareness Plaque pro-
gram provides an application package
that contains a reference sheet and help-
ful tips on how to research your building.
With a little detective work, you too may
uncover important or interesting local
history.
'lis have your building recognized with
