Ground Hog Day
Celebration
On the morning of Feb. 3 a group of friends gathered for
their annual mill -winter celebration. Braving the cold the
group met at the boat launch beside Purdy's at 8 a.m. for
the unfurling of the flags. The brain child of 1)avid and
Cecily Boyle, this celebration has grown each year. Mons
than 20 flags, representative of those who participate and
family abroad, were unrolled slowly in front of the Yacht
Club web calm. ('ecily coordinates this by speaking with a
friend in Pennsylvania who tells her each time the web
can scans the grl)tlp. 1hl' camera is refreshed every 30 sec-
onds so the choreography of this event is very important.
When every flag is displayed the grout) gives an enthusias-
tic wave to any friends and family who may be watching.
The Boyles have family in Australia and South \Vales
and to enable them to watch the event live, an 8 a.m. start
is needed. With a daughter now living in Denmark a Dan-
ish flag has been added; it was hoped that she was able to
set' it. Other participants have family in England, Ger-
many, Brazil and 1n the United States to 011111' just a few
countries.
Following the flan the celebration continues at Aunt
(;ussie's where all enjoy breakfast hosted by David and
Cecily. No, we don't have a ground hog but are promised it
visit from I3en(1uin in 2014 so watch this space!
