The Ombudsman received eight complaints 4 0111 citizens of Lambton Shores about the Nov. t 13 sleeting where CA() John Byrne was sus- pended with pay. A review of the complaints was launched just a week after the meeting and offi- cials with the Ombudsman say the report is now in the hands of the municipality. "It is up to the municipality to make this public, which it is expected to do no later than the next council meeting," says the Ombudsman's Director of Communication Linda Williamson in an entail. Lambton Shores Clerk Carol McKenzie con- firmed she had spoken with the Ombudsman's representatives an(1 assured them the report would come to council Feb. 1 1 . A full ruling on the issue of whether there were Cell tower moving forward Heather Wright QMI Agency It may be too late to stop a cell tower from being built at the marina in Port Franks. Bell Canada iS planning it ilew tower for 4G service at the marina but some resi(lents complained saying the towers cause reactions including severe headaches to people who are electro sensitive. Lambton Shores has been trying to get Bell to consider a location further away from people, but so far Bell has not. Council even set up it process for cell operators to go through to properly place the towers in an effort to keep them out of residential areas. But the efforts fell short when Industry Canada approved the company's request for Port Franks. Lambton Shores had asked MP Bev Shipley to intervene and file a cease and desist order, but the representative for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, in an entail to council, said that was not withal itis power. "It's my understanding that a request for such an order would have to be made by the residents or the municipality to the appropriate judicial authority,' he wrote. Instead, Shipley was to as the Industry Minister if he would intervene. clithe appeal to the MP does not seem to have worked. Iakeshoreadvance.com EXTRA... EXTRA... Classlfled Value! Offi- cials first review the complaints to see if a full investigation is warranted. This first report is likely to tell council if an investigation will take place or not. in the meantime, Councilor Doug Bonesteel is doing some paperwork to get the wheels turning on an investiga- tion by an integrity commissioner. Bon- esteel asked for the investigation after repeated media reports about a leak of confidential information before that Nov. 13 sleeting. Bonesteel has yet to write up a for- mal complaint, as stipulated by Lamb - ton Shores Code of Conduct. While he does that, staff plans to contact munici- palities in the region which may have their own integrity commissioner who could be hired to complete any investigation. Bonesteel isn't sure how much that will cost but says any commissioner has to be from "outside of Lambton County" to slake sure there is no per- ceived conflict.
