Grand Bend Community Foundation
Lakeshore Advance
The Grund Bend Community Foundation and the Grand
Bend Area Health Services Foundation have joined hands to
kickstart a fundraising campaign that will honour the mem-
ory of long-time community leader Prosper Vanbruaene.
Vanbruaene passed away on November 14, 2011 at the : ..
of 83. 1le ran a successful automotive repair shop in (;rant{
Bend for many years. Ile also dedicated time to the (rand
Bend Lion's Club, the Pt IC, and the Fire Department. I le %vas
one of the plain forces behind telt' creation of the Grand Bend
Area Community I lealth (:entre ((BA('1I(:).
1'o honour his memory and provide an opportunity for oth
ers to do so, the Grand Bend Community Foundation (GBCF)
and the Grand Bend Area health Services Foundation
(GBAIISF) have each pledged $5,(0X) toward the introduction
of an electronic medical record (EMR) system at the
GBACIIC.
"The FMB system will help
us improve duality of care for
our patients," says GBACHC
Executive Director I)r. Glenn
Bartlett. "'rhe system will allow
us to share information with
hospitals and other health pro-
viders, moving closer to the day
when people only have to tell
their story once. It will help us
manage complex chronic dis-
ease better, spot abnormal lob
tests, avoid drug interactions,
make other improvements to
patient cam and identify oppor-
tunities for cost savings."
The Grand Bend Community
Foundation made its pledge of
$5,000 during a meeting on
December O. "We were delighted to get behind this impor-
tant project," says Chair Pat Morden. "It was also a wad• to
continue what we started with the Community Leaders of the
Decade event - to recognize the many remarkable people
who provide volunteer leadership in Grand Bend. Prosper is
a shining example of the difference leadership can make.'
She added that GBCF is thrilled to be working in partnership
with the ! Iealth Services Foundation on the project.
The Health Services Foundation decided to match the
GR(:h pledge at a meeting on December 12, "Our mission is
to support the (+BACIIC, and this project Is clearly a top pri-
ority for the Centre," says GBAIISF Chair Dr. Bruce llough.
"'through our annual appeal we are already supporting the
FMR project -- this is a great opportunity to have even m'
impact."
A special event will be held in the New Year to present the
Vanbruaene family with a posthumous GBCF Community
leader of the Decade Award, recognize the donors, and
announce the results of the campaign. In addition, a plaque
listing all contributors of $2(X) or more will be mounted in the
