The Christmas season is fast approach-
ing and the Christmas Bureau Huron are
preparing to help those less fortunate and
with the help of the West Coast Lions
Club as well as I lome Hardware, those
less fortunate will have a great
:hristmas.
Dixie Van Amerongen is the manager
of the South Huron Christmas Bureau
and says she could not do her job without
the help of the service clubs and the gen-
erosity of I lome Hardware.
The I luron County Christmas Bureau
has been serving families for over 50
years. Once again this year, they are pre-
paring to help those in need. They want
to make sure that no child is forgotten at
Christmas.
The i 1CCB is a county -wide volunteer
group that organizes five gift "bureaus"
for disadvantaged families. They are
located in churches in Clinton, Exeter,
Grand Bend, Goderich, Seaforth and
Wingham. 'Toys, clothes, food and food
vouchers are donated, or purchased with
cash donations, for which the donor can
receive a tax receipt.
The 1luron County Christmas Bureau
helps to brighten the festive season by
providing food, clothing and toys for
more than 1000 children and their fami-
lies. You are invited to help make this a
reality, once again. Your donations of new
clothing, food and new toys can be placed
in the drop off box at Grand Bend Home
Ilardware. You can also drop offdona-
tions at the Exeter Pentecostal Taber-
nacle on London Road December 5 -9th
10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Hundreds of volunteers and donors
participate each year to ensure this pro-
gram's success. Volunteers collecting
donations from drop boxes placed in
businesses throughout county communi-
ties. They are also kept busy sorting,
organizing, and displaying the gifts. Then
they assist participants in the program
choose their children's gifts. And that is
where the West Coast Lions Club comes
into play. They will collect your donations
from Home Hardware, sort and then

deliver to either the local agencies.
Although the Christmas Bureau appre-
ciates all donations, they are asking
donors not to send Teddy Bears as they
have a surplus of this cuddly toy. A chal-
lenge for this group is always teen
gifts. Families can register their child to
the age of 18- and many donors don't
consider this age group when they are
buying that special gift. Van Amerongen
said gift cards and cosmetic sets are a
good Idea for this age group. She said you
can also consider giving a cash donation
and the Bureau will purchase gifts and
make gift baskets.
Custodial parents that need help with
Christmas this year should call "Christ-
mas Central" at 519 524-7356 x3271 or
1-800-265-5198 x3271 on weekdays from
Nov. 21 to Dec. 9th. When parents call,
they should have ready the ages and
clothes' sizes of their children. They will
be given an appointment during the week
of Dec. 12-16 at their closest bureau. They
will privately choose suitable gifts for their
family at the scheduled appointment.
"Open your hearts, then open your wallets! Please donate new
toys, new clothing, non-perishable food stuffs or money.
Cheques or cash can be brought to the Goderich Children's Aid
Society offices, clearly marked 'Christmas Bureau: Do keep in
mind the teenagers"
"Christmas Sharing is a gift to yourself" says Van Amerongen
