Dixie Van Amerongen is the manager of the South Huron Christmas Bureau and says she could not do her job without the help of the service clubs and the gen- erosity of I lome Hardware. The I luron County Christmas Bureau has been serving families for over 50 years. Once again this year, they are pre- paring to help those in need. They want to make sure that no child is forgotten at Christmas. The i 1CCB is a county -wide volunteer group that organizes five gift "bureaus" for disadvantaged families. They are located in churches in Clinton, Exeter, Grand Bend, Goderich, Seaforth and Wingham. 'Toys, clothes, food and food vouchers are donated, or purchased with cash donations, for which the donor can receive a tax receipt. The 1luron County Christmas Bureau helps to brighten the festive season by providing food, clothing and toys for more than 1000 children and their fami- lies. You are invited to help make this a reality, once again. Your donations of new clothing, food and new toys can be placed in the drop off box at Grand Bend Home Ilardware. You can also drop offdona- tions at the Exeter Pentecostal Taber- nacle on London Road December 5 -9th 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Hundreds of volunteers and donors participate each year to ensure this pro- gram's success. Volunteers collecting donations from drop boxes placed in businesses throughout county communi- ties. They are also kept busy sorting, organizing, and displaying the gifts. Then they assist participants in the program choose their children's gifts. And that is where the West Coast Lions Club comes into play. Although the Christmas Bureau appre- ciates all donations, they are asking donors not to send Teddy Bears as they have a surplus of this cuddly toy. A chal- lenge for this group is always teen gifts. Families can register their child to the age of 18- and many donors don't consider this age group when they are buying that special gift. Van Amerongen said gift cards and cosmetic sets are a good Idea for this age group. She said you can also consider giving a cash donation and the Bureau will purchase gifts and make gift baskets. Custodial parents that need help with Christmas this year should call "Christ- mas Central" at 519 524-7356 x3271 or 1-800-265-5198 x3271 on weekdays from Nov. 21 to Dec. 9th. When parents call, they should have ready the ages and clothes' sizes of their children. They will be given an appointment during the week of Dec. 12-16 at their closest bureau. They will privately choose suitable gifts for their family at the scheduled appointment. "Open your hearts, then open your wallets! Cheques or cash can be brought to the Goderich Children's Aid Society offices, clearly marked 'Christmas Bureau: Do keep in mind the teenagers" "Christmas Sharing is a gift to yourself" says Van Amerongen LyndaiINman-Raplsy Lakeshore Advance Nationally acclaimed Catherine Minielly and Grace Dekker arrived at Lambton Shores council last week arms laden with colourful cupcakes and a certificate boasting a whopping five blooms at the national Communities in Bloom competition. At this level a winner is declared for each population category and there were six participants In this population. Lambton Shores was in the top three -Canada wide for the Environmental Awareness category- something Judge Odette Sabourin suggested Lambton Shores apply for. In a little perspective regarding their CIB progress- in 2008's provincial competition they received 805 out of 1000, which garnered them four blooms. In 2009 they received 822 and five blooms. Still in the provincial level in 2010 they scored 836 and five blooms. This year, their National score was an Impressive 880.75, The group thanked Lambton Shores staff and council for their ongoing support and enthusiasm with decorative cupcakes. The ceremony took place at St. Boniface Church in Zurich. Maid of Honor was Danielle Haase, sister of the bride, Vancouver, BC. Bridesmaids were Amanda Wojcicki, friend of the bride, Burlington, Kaylcne Groot, friend of the bride, Exeter, Abbey O'Neill, friend of the bride,( Guelph), Annique Eilers, sister of the groom, Zurich and Kristina Eilers, sister of the groom, Zurich. Best roan was Eric lhrig, friend of the groom, St. Joseph. Groomsmen were Michail Groot, friend of the groom, Vancouver, Matthew Groot, friend of the groom, Exeter, TJ. Klopp, friend of the groom, Zurich, Steve Masse, friend of the groom, Zurich and Nick Vander Burgt, friend of the groom, St. Joseph. Guests were ushered by Deryk Rader, friend of the groom, Zurich and Brandon Skinner, friend of the groom, Zurich. Ring bearer was Caleb Knip, cousin of the bride, Exeter. Following the ceremony a reception was held at beautiful Hessenland Country inn, St. Joseph.
