Communities moving forward with various projects

During an exchange with (soon.
Joe Steffler (Huron East), Dudek
acknowledged he is aware of claims
with regard to the negative health
impacts of wind farms at one of
their Quebec wind farms, but he
was not sure as to whether they
have been addressed.
Development Front
Business development coordina-
tor Doug Barill says there is plenty
of room for growth in Huron
County.
In a multi -pronged report deliv-
ered to councillors, Barill spelled
out how communities within the
county are moving forward with
various projects in cooperation
with the Huron Economic Devel-
opment Partnership.
Among the report's highlights
were a new media project in limn
East that includes a blog, web
showcase and podcast for the busi-
ness Community, a streetscape
design project for Blyth in North
Iluron and the recently completed
business retention and expansion
project in Central Huron that has
already led to the hiring of a com-
munity improvement consultant
for Clinton's downtown core.

Barill says business retention and
expansion projects are also under
way in the Bluewater communities
of Zurich and I letlsall as we'll as the
communities of Wroxeter, Ford-
wich and Corrie in Howick
Township.
Another major project, says
Barill, is the hiring of a downtown
revitalization coordinator for
Goderich. Barill praised the crea-
tion of the two year-long positions
since dedicating one person to a
project allows a lot more to get
done than relying on volunteers to
take on Targe -scale projects.
Barill adds that once all of the
lower tiers' business studies are
completed, economic develop-
ment staff will work together on a
countywide one. one plan already
in the works, says Barill, is to intro-
duce kiosks to each municipality
wherein visitors can access maps
that identify all of the given com-
munity's tourist spots and
businesses.
In praising Burin's presentation,
(.outs. Bernie MacLellan (Huron
East) says it is heartening to see
tangible plans are now moving for-
ward care df the economic devel-
opment arm of the county.
Coon. Davie Rlach (North
I luron) asked whether snaps could

Consent OK'd
Ihe estate of Earl Schilbe will be
allowed to separate a 160 -acre farm
into two 80 acres thanks to a motion
approved by the committee.
In presenting the details of the
request, county planner Susanna
Reid notes the Goderich Township
property was once two HO -acre lots
and the biggest issue involves the
Gully Creek that intersects the town
properties since it is a habitat for a
threatened species of redside dace,
a small fish, which is a concern for
the Ausable Bayfield Conservation
Authority.
Clinton -based lawyer Frank
Cameron, acting on behalf of the
Schilbe estate, assured councillors
there would be no change to the
current use of the land and that the
change will allow the two lots to he
presented to two family members.
In asking that the county planning
department's requests for rezoning
not be required, Cameron says
extra paperwork would he
punitive.
Several councillors, including
lathes Ginn (Central Huron), sup-
ported the request.
In commending the Schilbe fam-
ily on its maintenance of the lands
in questions, (jinn says the reason
why the threatened fish are thriving
is because of the Schilbes' care.
"'There is nothing better to do
than give it to the stone family look-
ing after it;" says Ginn.
In approving the request, coun-
cillors asked only that the new lot
acquire the proper 911 address,

The Avon Maitland District School

Sherry Key, a Grade 7 teacher at

girls' "Stand Up to Bullying" project.
Originally a media project for their
class, the girls videotaped several
interviews with fellow students on
the topic of bullying. The media
project turned into a committee with
the goals of raising awareness and
preventing bullying.
