For their first game of the Challenge Cup Tournament, they faced North Middlesex Red Devils, winning a decisive 9 - 0. They faced St. Mary's in the semi-finals - the only team to have scored on them twice during the regular season. The girls worked hard and held them scoreless, winning 3 - 0. For the final game, they faced Strathroy, the number two team. Strathroy came on strong, but Grand Bend led 2 - 1 going into the half. Five minutes into the second half, the game was called due to weather. Despite waiting for almost two hours, the weather would not cooperate and the game went unfinished, and the champi- onship was awarded to Grand Bend. After finishing the season in first place, with a 12 -- 2 record, the Grand Bend 1116 Boys were optimistic going into the Chal- lenge Cup'lhurnament on August 27th, They won their first match 6 - 0 against Lucan, but barely squeaked by Coldstream, with a goal in the last minute of regulation time by Andrew Soudant giving them the 3 - 2 win. In the semi-finals, they beat Glencoe 5 - 1 and went on to face North Middlesex in the final. After an exciting, evenly matched game, the game ended in a 1 - 1 tie and the team was faced with a shootout. After the first five players from each team shot, the game was still tied and the shootout moved into sudden death. Four more play- ers shot from each team, with goalie Josh Ilotson deflecting many of the opposition's shots. Unfortunately, our players couldn't get a goal either. Finally, Josh called for his turn to take a shot - and scored the winning goal.
