Lakeshore Advance, 2012-08-15, Page 21N: H . - ia�.sMgr Wednesday, September 7, Dedication, donor recognition ceremony held for Triebner Tract 4) Land acquired is Part of provincially significant Hay Swamp wetland complex ABCA A donor recognition and dedication ceremony was held on 'l'tesday, August 23 to honour the acquisition of the Triebner Tract, a 40 -hectare property that is part of the provincially signifi- cant Hay Swamp Wetlands Complex, an area of natural and scientific interest located in the Municipality of Bluewater. "The wetlands complex in the former Hay Township is one of this area's most important ecosystems and the acquisi- tion of the Triebner Tract will increase our ability to protect it," said Tom Prout, General Manager and Secretary Treas- urer of the Ausable Bayfield Conserva- tion Authority (ARCA). "The ABCA has called the property the 'Triebner Tract to honour the family that owned the farm for generations" The farm has 12.5 hectares of worka- ble farmland and 23 hectares of forest. Wetland restoration and tree planting took place on 4.5 hectares of the wettest and least productive piece of farmland in 2010 and 2011. The total cost of the land acquisition project was more than $250,000. ARCA was able to acquire the environmentally important property thanks to generous contributions from the property's former owner, the late Stuart Alexander Triebner and family; and from individ- ual donors Mildred Creech, a former Stephen Township resident; and Fred and Reit Willert, of Grand Bend; and from other funding partners including the Nature Conservancy of Canada (in cooperation with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Province of Ontario Greenlands Program); Ducks Unlimited Canada; ABCA; and Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation. The contributors were honoured at the ceremony held at the site, east of Dashwood and west of Exeter, on August 23.
