"I'm both impressed and thankful for all the support for our comtnunity during this challenging time," said Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt. "This incredible generosity from Bruce Power's employees is the larg- est fundraising donation yet and we look forward to putting these funds to good use as part of our recovery and rebuilding efforts. Bruce Power also continues to sup- port our recovery efforts on the ground by providing equipment, supplies and human resources." The $180,000 will be directed towards the immediate recovery efforts underway in Goderich and to support the community's rebuilding efforts, specifically the replacement of mature trees and repair- ing damage to the town's beautiful down- town core. The proposed rehabilitation includes the replacement/rehabilitation of culverts and the resurfacing of the highway. Other Improvements include the replacement of partial illumination at Highway 21 and Huron Road 83, and entrance modifications throughout the project limits in accordance with MTO access management principles. Details on the rehabilitation will be available on the project website at www.Hlghway2lImprovements,ca. The website will be updated throughout the project. THE PROCESS This study will be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for Provincial Transportat/on Facilities (2000) (MTO's Class EA) as a Group 'B' project, One Public Information Centre (PIC) will be planned to display and seek Input on the proposed improvements. This project has the potential to be 'stepped -down' to a Group 'C' project subject to screening for significant environmental Issues. Following the PIC, MTO will decide if It is appropriate for the project to be 'stepped -down'. A notice will be issued providing a 30 -day public review period of MTO's decision to 'step-down' the project, COMMENTS Comments and information regarding this protect are being collected to assist MTO in meeting the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. The two train unions on site, The Society of Energy Professionals and the Power Workers' Union, contributed $10,000 to the fundraising effort, which was also matched by Bruce Power. Power has been restored to about 95 per cent of the homes in town and gas service Is in place to 65 percent of the homes. The Square remains closed. Dorey, who Is coordinating victim services personnel from six area counties In providing emotional support for residents, suffered her own loss in the tornado.
