Lakeshore Advance, 2012-08-08, Page 22Taking a gamble on love in Guys and Dolls Katie Brickman QMI Agency Intense rehearsals are under way this week at the Huron Country Playhouse as the cast members of Guys and Dolls get ready for another fun -filled production. For Jackie Musta- kas, she gets to reprise her role as Miss Adelaide in the musical comedy. Guys and Dolls was per- formed last season at the Dray- ton Festival 'Theatre and has been rotated to the Playhouse this year and most of the cast members are hack performing their roles. 611t is like a great reunion to come back," Mustakas said. "'Things are familiar, R is like an visiting an old friend:" Guys and Dolls is a classic play that premiered on Broad- way in 1050 that has been per- formed in many theatres in the United States and Canada since then. 'The play surrounds the gam- ble of love around the pious and beautiful Sarah Brown and the high -roller Sky Masterson and the frustration of the 14 -year long love story involv- ing Nathan Detroit and Miss Adelaide. The place is rich in humour, romance, hold dance sequences, and sassy, catchy songs. Mustakas began her acting career in 1998 on the Main Stage at the Playhouse and this summer will mark her first time returning to the same stage that got her started. With the new facility completed and new seating, Mustakas is excited to be where she began. "It is absolutely beautiful," she said. "It is exciting and there is a buzz in the theatres. It is very unique to the theatre and arts community." Mustakas loves playing the roll of Miss Adelaide and being on stage with her other cast members. "1 love the show, it is one of the most classic plays," she said. "It can stand alone as a play or stand alone as a musical." The Mount hose, Ontario native believes that Guys and Dolls is "a show you don't want to miss!" "It is a huge, colourful show with great characters. Playing Adelaide is an extraordinary character who is so different from myself," she said. Since being able to work with many of the same people from last season, the connec- tion and chemistry that had been built the characters have been great and many feel like family. "With more people, the buzz. becomes so grand," she said. "The laughter and applause from the audience heightens everything," Guys and Dolls opens on August 21st at 2 p.m. on the Main Stage with 650 seats.
