Home exercise program for seniors

A new, at-home exercise video for seniors
- 'Exercises at the Kitchen Sink' - Is now
available for loan through the County of
Lambton Community Health Services
Department and all County of Lambton
Libraries.
The exercise program, designed by
.searchers at the British Columbia Injury
search and Prevention Unit, is intended
for seniors confined to their home or who

do not take part in exercise programs out-
side the home. The program consists of
seven (7) activities to improve strength and
balance, and to help lessen the risk of
falling.
Mamie Garrett, a public health nurse with
Community Health Services, says "Falls are
a leading cause of injury and disability in
adults over the age of 65, and being inactive
is one of the main risk factors for falling.

muscle strength and improve balance; both

are important factors to avoid falls or recover
from a fall -related injury"
The exercise DVD comes with a booklet of
instructions and pictures of each exercise.
When the video is returned, the borrower
can keep the instruction booklet so they can
continue with the exercise program.
