Local lad hits it big In Junior golf

Nicklaus Kennedy may live in
London but has a part time resi-
dent of Grand Bend since he was
born. Son of Bill Kennedy, this 16
year old loves to golf. He loves it
so much he spent last week par-
ticipating in the Maple Leaf Jun-
ior Golf Tour walking away the
winner in his age group and 300
points of merit.
The non-profit Maple Leaf Jun-
ior Golf Tour presented by Bos-
ton Pizza is Canada's premier
and only national Junior tour run
exclusively by Canadian PGA
Professionals and the 'Road to
College Golf' for aspiring young
players. The organization hosts
more than 60 events across Can-
ada, including free Ford Go Golf
Junior Clinics, the MIT Mini Tour
for 7-13 year olds, and multi -day
events for competitive players
which also qualify Juniors for
international competitions. 'the

MJ1' alumni include many Pro-
fessional Tour players and Cana-
dian PGA Professionals, as well
as Canadian Amateur, National
and Provincial Junior Champi-
ons. The MIT aims to develop
champions, in golf and in life,
promoting the game from grass-
roots through to provincial,
national, university and profes-
sional level.
Last week Nicklaus, who was
named after famed golfer Jack
Nicklaus, was in five tourna-
ments and came out the top win-
ner in all with score of
Nicklaus is a grade 12 student
in London and was a student of
the Oakwood Resort golf camps
taught by Colin Scatcherd.
The tours in the past two
weeks, which Nicklaus won all
for his Boys 16 group included
Tyson Tours in Wardsville where
he was first with a 70, Maple Leaf
two day event ending with an 83
and 77, Tyson Tour at Highland
Golf in London finishing with a
70, Junior Optimist Tour in St.
Marys -two day event finishing 72
and 73 and Tyson Tour in
Dorchester finishing 62- one
under par.
