More weekend photos on pages 12-13 New stability for farmers through Risk Management program QM' Agency Lakeshore Advance "Starting this fall, farmers in Lambton Kent Middlesex (LKM) will benefit from new stability and predictability that will help protect their fauns and ensure Ontario fam- ilies continue to enjoy healthy local food," said MPP Maria Van Hommel as she Joined Agriculture Minister and MPV for Iluron-Druce, Carol Mitchell, and Environment Minister and MPP for Perth -Wellington, John Wilkinson at 13 & D Fullarton Farms Ltd in Mitchell. Farmers will be able to apply for support through the new Risk Man- agement Program a first of its kind in Ontario. The program, working like insurance, helps grain and oilseeds, cattle, hog, veal and sheep farmers manage risks beyond their control, such as fluctuating costs and volatile market prices. Ontario is also providing a self- directed risk management program for the edible horticulture sector. A strong agri-food industry is part of the McGuinty government's plan to create jobs and opportunities that will grow the province's economy. "Farmers in my riding have been asking for this program and I'm proud to say that the McGuinty gov- ernment has delivered," said Van Hommel. "Risk Management will help support our fanners, our local foods, and our rural communities."
