When NDP leader lack Layton accused Liberal leader Michael tgnatieff of not showing up for the job, stating he missed 70% of the votes in the House of Commons, clinched the voting process for many. And why was that? Because it hit home. If you don't show UI) to work you can't expect a promotion or even get paid. if you don't show up for tests or exams 70 % of the time- you don't graduate. That is reality and if there was any message from that debate- that one was relevant to anyone watching. In fairness 1 did check out those numbers and they are actually 59 per cent of the votes and Ignatieff was on the road talking to the people at this time - but what you heard is what you heard. As in every debate, the audience has no time for the "bickering" labelled by Prime Minister Stephen flamer but chastised by Liberal leader Michael lgnatief calling it a "debate" not bickering. Call it what you want- the voters don't want to sit and listen to it. Going round and round with the same comnleIlts was another complaint. 'those at home want to hear solutions to issues they deal with every day. We have to hope that Canadians are smart people and are not swayed by the banter and accusations from a two hour televised debate. Most voter's minds are set and the debate, to many is always a futile exercise. What people walk away with is a better understanding of the leader's character. Is he/she a hot head, does he/she grandstand, can he/ she handle pressure, can he/she articulate an answer in 30 words or less- and so on. People are watching facial expressions and finger wagging and is that leader or candidate answering the question asked. As in any election - vote wisely - but as important -vote. letter to the editor Association explain their core values The Latnbton Shores Community Associa- tion would like to provide a clarification to the wider community of Grand Bend, It is worth repeating our core values for every- one's benefit. As a matter of fact -1 kind of like the summer better being mar- ried to a golf junkie. Nltlle ninny of the girls 1 know have become great golfers, love and participate in leagues, there are still some of us who opt out of this sport. And we are okay with that, From now until October or November every waking moment for Randy will be spent at the driving range practising his swing, or chipping or doing whatever it is he does, Every television show will he interrupted by the much needed leader board results and shopping trips will have to include malls that just happen to have sport stores. And don't forget the play by play when he gets home. Yes dear, glad you are hav- ing fun dear. Maybe 20 years ago or even 26 years ago this would pose a problem for the, not wanting to golf. Ilut today, this really is okay. In the summer I am busy at work. And when lam not, l like to walk the Rotary Trail - some- times to the Pinery, and I like to sit in the sun and read. Mark 1wvain said, "Golf is a good walk spoiled." Right you are Mr. 'Iwvain. Bobby Jones said, "You swing your best when you have the fewest things to think about; and that is what I'm talking about.] get to walk or read and Randy gets to golf and talk about golf and spend time after his golf game telling the same people he just golfed with his play by play. l think 1 win. Randy has always told the he wants his ashes scattered on a golf course; To that 1 say when 1 die, bury me on the golf course so he will visit.
