The Thunder recently laced up their
.di/skates for the last time in the
2010/2011 season during Game 5 of
the recent Ontario Minor Ilocke.y
Association (OMIIA) Finals.
The Midgets played to a full stand-
ing -room only crowd in Zurich, but
came up a few goals short at the end
of 45 minutes. It was a hard-fought
series and a battle to the end for both
teams. The first 15 minutes saw Man-
vers get out to an early lead on the
score board 3 goals.
The second period saw a few glim-
mers of hope when Zurich's Captain,
Nick LaPorte, finally put the Thunder
on the board with a goal at 9:26
assisted by Kurds Denomme and
Braden Erb. Then followed up close
behind by a goal at 9:17 from defence -
man Greg Cooper unassisted, the
momentum had shifted and Zurich
was within two and closing the gap.
Manvers had other plans and man-
aged to get a few quick unanswered
goals midway through the second to
try and put the game out of reach,
ending the second with a 7-2 lead.
Zurich continued to battle in the cor-
ners and worked really hard to get back
hi this game and it paid off when Jordan

recently took home the
Platinum Award in the
bacon category and a Sil-

cold -cut category at the
Ontario Finest Meat

held in Toronto.
In all, the meat meet
drew 140 entries from 21
Ontario processors and a
list of "knowledgeable,
influential judges,"
including retail buyers,
media, chefs and home
economists, were
entrusted with the task
of determining the Plati-

category.
Also on hand to hon-

Brand, assisted by LaPorte,
knocked in Zurich's third goal
at 8:46, and then again when
Colin Gingerich scored at
6:35, assisted by Brand. Time
was not on Zurich's side, and
the final 5 minutes ran out too
fast, finishing the game 7-4.
The fans were great and the
team deserves a round of
applause for a great season
and giving area residents a
season to remember.
The 'Thunder had an
amazing season record of
41 games played: 27 wins,
12 losses and two ties. High-
est points go to Capt. Nick
LaPorte, with total points
earned of 74 (50 goals and
24 assists).

from myself and all the

players - Nick LaPorte, Josh

Greg Cooper - who are
wrapping up their Zurich

season.
As for myself, it has been
an unbelievable 14 years of
hockey but 1 wouldn't trade
in those cold arena seats
and the long drives home
from who knows where for
anything else. 1 also wanted
to thank the Coaches and
Staff for all the long hours
volunteering your time and
to the wonderful generous
"fan" who catered the meal
after the final game on
Saturday.
