"We are learning every year and the
ultimate goal should he for a clean
water and a nice beach. We have
conte a long way. This is a learning
curve and 1 think we are going in the
right direction."
Sandra Crank a longtime down-
town cottager said the consultants
did an excellent job listening to the
input from the community. She con-
tinues to oppose anything that is
commercialized or anything with
amplified sound on the beach. She
also opposes anything (such as dune
grass) that impedes the beach area
from the boardwalk to the water.
Southcott Pines resident Dick
Matzta said he wants whatever is
good for the majority of the people. 1
want to see lots of people here. The
businesses downtown have expended
a lot of money to he here - tourists are
a good thing."
Marlin Siren a long time downtown
resident said she is glad to see the
consultants have addressed the issue
of commercial enterprise that was an
issue for so many last year. Siran had
not gone through the document fully
but said at first glance it looked like
there was limited commercial
projects. "lt looks like they really

For several years, there have been discussions tepid
ing the hest method of ensuring the students 111111 attend
the (rand Bend Public School have a safe route to travel
to and from the 1)115 loading/unloading area on til (;res -
cent Street. At the last meeting, Council approved desig
dating an area on R1 Crescent Street as the bus loading/
unloading zone.
While this may have made the actual loading area
safer, parents still have concerns that the children have
to walk from the school property to the loading zone, and
cross in front of the parking lot entrance.
This situation is temporary, as it is expected that the
roads in the llarbourside Village subdivision will he
assumed by the Municipality in the summer of 2(111.'1'11e
assumption of these roads will 1111ow the hoses to load
and unload in front of the school on (;ill Road, and then
safely turn around using the roads in !fathom sid•
Village.
()ne of the parents has volunteered to serve as a Cross-
ing Guard to assist the children when travelling frons the
school property until the roads are assumed. The cost for
this service would be minimal as it would involve a total
of 1 hour per day, and at this time, staff feels the short
term request can be accommodated in the current oper-
ating budget as there is a small allowance in the budget
for "relief guards.
