Bluewater by-law not passed; Lambton Shores councilor walks out
111 Tri -municipal
meeting
Lynda HIllman-Raplsy
Lakeshore Advance
A little grandstanding for the
tri-municpal board meeting last
Friday resulted in two councils at the
table and one in the gallery.
As the meeting commenced
Lambton Shores councilor Doug
Bonesteel said he was uncomfortable
at the table with only two partners
there. Bluewater council sat in the
front row facing the board. Other
members at the table were South
Huron deputy mayor Jim Dietrich,
coun. Tom Tomes and mayor George
Robertson, Lambton Shores mayor
Bill Weber, ward one coun, Dave
Maguire and Bonesteel. All three
CAOs were at the meeting as was
Chris Hutt and Mike Parker from the
Ministry of the Environment.
"I am uncomfortable without
Bluewater at the table," said Bones-
teel, 1 will assume they are not inter-
ested. He felt this group should
reconvene until Bluewater was there.
George Robertson, South Huron
mayor and chair of the meeting said
they had quorum and could go
forward.
"I will override that -we have a
quorum." said Robertson.
Lambton Shores mayor said this
board does not make the decisions
and Bluewater will have a chance to
come back to the table with their
voice.
Bonesteel gathered his material
and left the table and the building
and Lambton Shores deputy mayor
Elizabeth Davis Dagg, the alternate
for this committee, also refused to
come to the table for the same
reasons as Bonesteel.
Bluewater mayor Bill Rowson and
CAO Lori Wolf mode it very clear to
the Lakeshore Adiance this council
is very much on board and have a
strong working relationship with the
other two councils.
Dowson explained to the
Lakeshore Advance that their council
have not established committee
members for this board. They have
their citizen committees appointed
but not the political ones such as
Tri -municipal. There must be a bylaw
for this and to this point that has not
happened. As it stands the mayor,
deputy and councilor George Irwin
are the committee members -but that
has not been approved by council.
This by-law was scheduled to be
heard at this week's council meeting.
As to whether the CAOs knew
Bluewater would not be at the table
on Friday, Lambton Shores CA() John
Byrne said, "'Ihe Administrators met
'Thursday afternoon to discuss the
