Bluewater's police budget is set to
rise slightly in 2011, with a 0.7 per cent
increase from last year's estimated
police costs.
Intron ()PP Inspector 1)an Grant
and Staff Sergeant Shawn Johnson
presented to council an estimated
$736,225 budget, up from
approximately $731,473 paid out last
year. Exact 2010 figures won't be
released until March. Despite the
modest projected gain, (rant told
councillors that their police
expenditures are in good shape.
"(Bluewater's) costs over the last
several years have been fairly
consistent," he said. "As a matter of
fact, 2009 was less than 20011."

from the previous year. Aside
from 2019, the municipality's
police budget has been on
the rise since 2007. If the
police budget passes this
year, which it's expected to
do, Bluewater will pay
$36,000 more than it did in
four years ago.
Inspector Grant says that's
not connected to a rise in
crime
"The calls for service have
been pretty stable in
Bluewuter over the past
several years," he said. "'lhe
formula used to evaluate
operating expenses went up
in 2008, and the cost for
municipalities take int()
account officers' salaries,
which traditionally go up
one to three per cent (per
year)."
