Lakeshore Advance
A steady and substantial annual
decline in impaired driving charges
is reported by Ontario Provincial
Police in Lambton County. Huron
OPP list a leaner charge sheet for
2010 while their Middlesex counter-
parts continue to nab more
offenders.
"Since 2007 our impaired driving
numbers have dropped to less than
half," Lambton Community Services
Officer John Reurink told The
Advance. Nis county detachment's
final 2010 total is 108 drinking/driv-
ing charges, down from 153 in 2009,
182 in 2008 and 227 in 2007.
Lambton's final charge of 2010
resulted from a R.l.l).E. checkpoint
stop at 10:30 p.m. New Year's live. A
50 -year-old Point Edward woman
allegedly blew more than twice the
legal limit. Reurink was invited to
comment on the decline and possi-
ble reasons for it but has not
responded to the e-malled request.
11uron County Community Serv-
ices Officer Joanna Van Mierlo
offered a two year comparison. 11er
department's officers Jaid 74 charges
in 2010, down from 99 in 2009. "'There
are lots of possible reasons why this
number is down," said Van Mierlo
without elaborating.
1luron's final 2010 charge also
resulted from a R,1.1).li. checkpoint
in Exeter at 11:15 p.m. New Year's
live. The 21 -year-old South Iluron
male allegedly blew more than twice
the legal limit.
