Honoured guest at this year's Dave Scatcherd invitational,
this celebrated baseball great was pleased to be hack on
home turf. USA resident, Jenkins was born in Chatham and
began playing baseball when he was 14. A friend of Scatch-
erd's, Jenkins, 67, worked out his busy schedule so he could
be at the 29th annual event, raising dollars for Community
Living and the Scatcherd Respite Home. Jenkins is no
stranger to humanitarian tarian work, being the source of $ l.7 mil-
lion to mom than 5(X) charities in Canada and the USA.
JUNE -In a role she has wanted for 40 years, Canadian
actress Cynthia Dale is in her element asthe sassy Charity
Hope Valentine in Sweet Charity playing at the Huron Coun-
try Playhouse. This is her debut at this venue, "Who wouldn't
want to do a play in a barn in the middle of nowhere?" she
laughed.
JUNE -One by one, at a meeting Thesday, June 22 in Sea -
forth, trustees of the Avon Maitland District School Hoard
offered their perspective on why h's beneficial to congregate
(trades 7 and 8 students in numbers greater than currently
offered in many of the hoard's elementary schools, '(hen, in
the culmination of an accommodation review process that
began in September, 2009, they voted unanimously to cl'et'
such a congregation of students at South I luron District 111h
School (S111)1S) in Exeter - in the process, necessitating the
closure, effective September, 2012, of Zurich Public School
and ()shortie Central Public School.
