Dr Ralph Martin to speak at awards night
Awards night speaker to discuss links
between environment and health
Lakeshore Advance
A guest speaker at an
annual conservation awards
night near Exeter will dis-
cuss links between the
health of the natural envi-
ronment and the health of
people and species.
Ralph C. Martin is a pro-
fessor and Loblaw Chair in
Sustainable Food Produc-
tion at Ontario Agricultural
College (OAC), University of
Guelph. 11e is scheduled to
be guest speaker on Thurs-
day, March 15, 2012 at the
annual Ausable Hayfield
Conservationist of the Year
awards evening, held this
coming year at Ironwood
Golf Club, at 70969 Morri-
son Line, just east of Exeter.
His topic is 'Linking envi-
ronmental health and
human health as our climate
becomes less steady.'
Dr. Martin's philosophy of
sustainable food production
is to produce enough food
to meet people's present
dietary needs and, at the
same time, preserving pro-
duction capacity for future
generations of people and
other species. His vision is
food production that exists
within an environment of
healthy soil, clean air, clean
water, and regenerative
energy which all support
resilient farming and fishing
communities.
"1 am grateful for the
opportunity to speak to the
public at the conservation
awards evening about
retaining productive capac-
ity and profitability in a
healthy environment in
order to augment the health
of people and other species
in this vulnerable period of
a changing climate," said 1)r.
Martin.

grew unexpectedly when he

Organic Agriculture Centre
of Canada to coordinate
