Moving Up
Seventeen -year-old Amanda Kelland, 17, of the Bluewater Zurich Skating Club, Is enjoying a great start to the new skating season,
with her first competition being in Detroit where she placed fourth, points away from being on the podium. This event was followed
by a competition in Kitchener -Waterloo, where she brought home a gold medal for her long program and a silver for her short
program. Then in October, she competed In Barrie, against skaters from across Canada, this time bringing home the gold medal
Improving her overall points. Just recently she competed In the 2012 Skate Canada -Western Ontario Sectionals Competition, where
she placed second and qualified to go onto 2012 Skate Canada Challenge being heki In Regina, Sask. That competition is the
stepping stone to Canadian Figure Skating Championships, which are being held In Moncton, NB, In January of 2012. During the
Sectionals Competttlon, she also qualified to compete at the Ontario Winter Games being held in Barrie, Ontario in March of 2012.
Amanda, who trains at the Competitive Training Centre of Strathroy, Is on the ice five days a week, about 5 to 6 hours a day, 11
months of the year.
