"We don't want kids killing themselves because they've been bullied that much," said Lupton in the video. Key said that the committee's efforts will create a safe space for kids who are being bullied but are afraid to go to an adult. In the video Lupton says that teachers and other adults are not always aware of bullying when it's happening. "'Their eye Just doesn't see it as well," she said. After the video, trustee Michael Bannerman asked if most bullied kids are comfortable going to an adult. "They feel embarrassed," answered Lupton. Student trustee and LDSS student Alanna Coneybeare pre- dicted that the video and committee could have far-reaching influence across the board after trustees and staff viewed it. "You girls are really, really brave," she said. All AMDSB schools will hold special events and activities during the month of November and the week of Nov 13 to 19, which is National Bullying Awareness Week. The video of the NWPS project is available at www.beaverb. ca, a special AMDSB website dedicated to bullying awareness and prevention. The AMDSB's "be a verb" campaign began in 2010 as part of that year's National Anti -Bullying Week and was influenced by Bill 157, the "Keeping Our Kids Safe at School" act and Bill 168, the Occupational Health and Safety Amendment Act (Violence and Harassment in the Workplace). Beaverb.ca includes videos on anti -bullying projects held at Wingham and Hensall public schools, and South Huron District High School (SHDHS), as well as the video of the popular "Make It Better Now" Rick Mercer ram. The site also features anti -bullying Facebook posts and Twitter tweets that students can post on their social media accounts.
