On September 17, 2011 the
Lambton Heritage Museum
was pleased to honour Adam
Appel of Port Franks for
twenty-five years of volunteer
service.
Adapt Appel first volun-
teired as a tractor driver dur-
ing the 1985 Christmas pro-
gramme. Over the next 25
years hundreds of students
enjoyed Adam's demonstra-
tions, especially his specialty
- rope -making. Adam's skill
and sense of humour made it
one of the most popular
activities. This continues
today as Adam, at age 92, vol-
unteers at the annual Christ-
mas programme, supervising
the candle -making activity.
Adam's wife Polly is also a
long -tittle volunteer, assisting
with Victorian crafts in the
historic Rokeby Schoolhouse.
For many years, Adapt and
Polly could he found at the
admission desk during the
annual Craft Show. For extra
fun, Adam enjoyed dressing
up for the Haunted 1 louse
and scaring the visitors, who
often mistook hits for one of
the young teenagers.
Adam is a man of many
skills that have been applied
to many museum projects.
As a trained locksmith, he
was able to fabricate keys for
several locked pieces of
antique furniture. Ile came
to the rescue once when staff
inadvertently locked the keys
in an office. Adam also used
his carpentry skill to fabricate
missing parts for several arti-
facts, such as the Wren Fan-
ning Mill from Forest.
"The Lambton heritage
Museum extends a big thank -
you to Adam Appel for his
cheerful smile and continued
support and we look forward
to many more years," said
Laurie Webb, Supervisor of
Museums.
The Lambton heritage
Museum is open Monday
through Friday from 10 a.m.
until 5 p.m., weekends and
holidays from 11 a.nt, to 5
p.m. The museum is 8 km.

Resident and local busi-
ness owner Gen Baillie said
he owns an Eco -Flo system
that does not work. "It needs
to be replaced," he said, "It is
flimsy and it can't bear any
weight so the casing cracks
and no warranty applies," he
said adding this is a $25,000
investment that is six years
old and he has to install
again. "There is no deben-
ture and there is no govern-
ment dollars so 1 have to
write the check or condemn
my house."
"What is the cost of doing
hing" "$25,000 for every
uutw home unless we go back
to two acre lots?" Even with
a proper drainage and filtra-
tion system installed new,
you still aren't sure over time
about the quality of the efflu-
ent. "The asset value of
homes is supported
by having clean water in a
pristine environment."
"What happens to the water
when it leaves the ttertiary
system?" "What is the rate of
decline of the performance
over time?"
Baillie said a sewer system
is a collective good. All resi-
dents and visitors benefit
from access to clean water.
He said benefits accrue to
the overall community as a
result. "A properly function-
ing septic can do the same
thing, but what is the actual
cost of that, and what is the
cost to the entire community
if the homeowner doesn't
care enough to ensure the
water is clean when it leaves
his system?" Ile said any
cost benefit analysis must
consider these costs, and
you must start to ask those
questions."
Baillie also suggested this
group speak to Chuck

You may experience discoloured water coming from your tap. if
this happens, we suggest you try the following:
• remove the tap aerators ofT your taps and (lush all the house
lines until the water runs clear.
• flush out your hot water tanks. This is to remove the
accumulated iron that precipitates out in the tank; this iron may
also decrease the efficiency of your water tank.
You may experience lower than normal pressure as a result of the
flushing activities.
