From red to blue and a minority too
Lakes ore Adana Me photos
Lambton Kent Middlesex and Huron Bruce went from red to blue In the 40th provincial election. PC Monte McNaughton won with 19,059 votes to Liberal Maria Van
Bommel's 12,284. PC Lisa Thompson took 18,749 of the votes with Incumbent Liberal Carol Mitchell losing with14,373 votes.
McGuinty finishes
one seat short of
historic third
majority, a feat no
Ontario premier
has pulled off since
conservative Leslie
Frost in 1959
One seat.
'That's all that kept Premier Ualton
McGuinty from winning an historic
third straight Liberal majority last
'Thursday.
The Liberal leader's last chance
might have come and gone in Perth -
Wellington, where 'Tory newcomer
Randy I'ettapiece beat Liberal Envi-
ronment Minister John Wllknson In
a close race.
'The loss was symbolic.
All across rural Ontario, voters
angry at McGuinty's green energy
policy -- which translated into wind
turbines in their hack yards -- blew
out the Liberals and ushered in the
Conservatives.
"Look at the seats he's lost in
Ontario -- it's clear rural Ontario is
rejecting his dictatorial role through
the Green Energy Act," said John
Laforet, president of Winds Concern
Ontario.
The turbines also blew Liberal
Agriculture Minister Carol Mitchell
out the door in Huron- Bruce and
Maria Vanlonunel In l.tunbton Kent
Middlesex.
"Wind turbine development has
jumped into a paramount position,"
said rookie Conservative candidate
Lisa 'Thompson, who took down the
two -term liberal MPP.
This 40th provincial election
showed the lowest voter turnout in
history with less than 47 per cent of
eligible voters.
