Local girls love the world of darts
QMI Agency
Lakeshore Advance
Both Kaleigh Clemens and Kris
Mommersteg have been playing darts
for 20 years. In the beginning there was
no such thing as youth darts in the area
so they started their dart journey in a
Pub league in Grand Bend. Both girls
growing up in Grand Bend knew each
other but were mere acquaintances. ()n
the same dart league but on differ-
ent teams they were each other's tough-
est competition. The darts came natu-
rally to them and they finally decided
after five years of competing against
each other they would start a team of
their own. The Spitfire Girls formed and
rocked the league for several years.
Next came the tournaments where
they soon found out "you can play
darts and actually win money too. As
Legion members they competed in
the 'Lone 1111(1 District tournaments
often qualifying for Provincials and
the National Dart Federation of Can-
ada (NDII0) )
Both Kaleigh and Kris finished first
in their respective zones for two years
in a row sending them off to Provin-
cials to try to qualify for Team
Ontario. The top eight men and top
eight women made up 'l'eanm Ontario
to compete nationally. Then it was
time to join the Moose Lodge in Vir-
ginia 2010. The next year in West
Virginia the offer still stood to he in
the NI)1I0I'. In 2011 Kaleigh and her
mixed doubles partner won the
Legion Provincial title. In 2011 at
Moose Provincials Kaleigh won Ladies
singles, Ladies Doubles with Kris. In
2010 and 2011 she was one win away
from making team Ontario finishing
top 16.
Kris qualified and played for Team
Ontario in 2009 and 2011. In 2009
'Pearn Ontario won the Canada Cup.
Last year at the Moose International in
West Virginia Kris won Ladies singles.

Dirty Dogs win their home opener
QMI Agency
In front of a crowd of 100+ the Dirty
Dogs set forth onto the 2011-2012 season
with a victory. Medford battled hard early
in the game to kill off many power plays,
while finding the net on one of their own.
Great goaltending by Dave Riddell and
some gritty play from veterans like Justin
Smith and lake Bruce paved the way said
fans. "I like the looks of the team chemis-
try, the rooms seems loose and we have
some new guys that are contributing
already. Askin, Van Dusen were key pick
up's for our team" said team GM Shawn
Dickey. 'Ihe team travels to'illlsonburg to
face the Thunder in their home opener
Saturday at 7:30.
Dogs lose in Tillsonburg
"It's a game of inches" say's new-
comer Jamie Atkin, and so it was as the
Dirty Dogs lose their first game 6-2.6-2,
you say is not close -well if you count 5
missed break-away's, 2 dis-allowed
goals and 1 goal of 'I'illsonburg's was
scored by a Dogs' player 1'1' WAS A
(:LOSE GAME. Another great game
again played by net minder Dave Rid-
dell. "It was a game that built a lot of
character in the guys, some teams
would have been frustrated to the point
the would have gave up...not our guys, a
lot of positives in that game" said 1 lead
Coach Chris Downie. The team is back
home against the Petrolia Squires next
Saturday at the Legacy, 7:30 puck drop.
