last week to respond to the
economic impacts of the
August 21 tornado and storm
that hit Goderich, Hentniller,
and area.

tion for Moron County tour-
ism is advising visitors that
many locations in Goderich,
Benmiller, and throughout
Huron County are able to
serve visitors now and many
other tourism destinations
are rebuilding to be able to
serve guests in the future. 'Ihe
association has, however,
asked visitors to stay awav
from areas that are for local
traffic only, or closed, and to
respect people who are
rebuilding their hurtles and
businesses at this time.

"This is a tinge of bereave
nlent, loss, and sadness," said
Tina Cumming, President of
the HTA and a resident of
Goderich. "I have seen how
drastically this terrible
weather event has affected
neighbours, friends, family,
and business people, 1 have
also witnessed clow residents
and business owners are so
courageously and resolutely
cleaning up, and rebuilding,
after a disaster that cannot
adequately be captured in
words, and only partly in
t hotos."
Cumming asked visitors to
.,oderich and area to respect
home owners during an
emotional time of rebuilding
and to avoid the most heavily
damaged areas. 1 le also said
there are areas throughout
Huron County, including
Benmiller and Goderich, that
are appropriate to visit now
and in the coming months.
"We are encouraging tour-
ists to support those tourism
enterprises that are able to
serve customers now and to
plan to visit, in the near
future, those businesses that
are rebuilding as soon as they
are ready," he x111(1. "1 think
people are looking for practi-
cal ways to help and they can
loo that through donations to
disaster relief and downtown
heritage restoration, through
attending the upcoming Out
of the Storm benefit concert
and events, and through sup-
porting businesses in all
areas of Huron County,
including those destinations
in Bennliller and Goderich
that can serve clients now."
individual members of the
board have been in discus-
sion with governmental and
agency representatives to
identify ways to support the
tourism industry as it
rebuilds.
The toltrisin board
acknowledged that there has
been Toss of many natural
and heritage features in parts
of the county but members
also expressed their hope
and expectation that many
