And from that offer- there was no turning back. Mike Coon from Cornpex Display donated the thermometers that people watched from week to go, Beginning with a couple hundred dollars- the red line indi- cating success went higher and high until it reached the $5,000 goal. And people con- tinued to donate. At last count, late last week the dona- tions had reached $9200, and more con- tinue to come in! "It is absolutely unreal; said Eckel, "'the support that this community has shown is amazing! 1 was blown away by the turn out Monday night for Jam Night at the Gables, and by the generosity that the people of Grand Bend have shown." She said it is so great to see a community come together and unite for a great cause "1 never dreamed we would exceed our goal of $500(1, not to mention by such a huge margin! Of course, says Eckel, none of this would have been possible without Elly. "She is an amazing woman with a lot of strength and courage. 1t takes a lot to stand up in front of hundreds of people and cut off so many years worth of hair! I cannot thank her enough for agree- ing to take on this fundraiser with me! Her donation will change the lives of many well deserving individuals, Words cannot even express how grateful I am." Eckel said a big thank you also goes out to Boomer, the amazing staff of the Gables and Colonial, and of course, the Mason and Musser and McCann families. She said this fancily is always 'front and centre' when it comes to helping the commune make a difference. The walk is September 10-11 in Tororto and Eckel will tackle that feat with her friend Jaclyn Rader. Both girls are walking to support Jaclyn's mom Brenda.
