Call for details X519-238-5383 8 Lakeshore Advance • Thursday, August 24, 2011 The Friends of Pinery Park recces grant 18 organizations and schools benefit from .47410 ' over $201,000 in grants funded by Sobeys Ontario Lakeshore Advance Earth Day Canada and Sobeys Ontario are pleased to announce that The Friends of Pin- ery Park is the recipient of an Barth Day Can- ada Community Environment Puled grant. T'hl grant will be used to construct rolling boardwalks over unprotected dune pathway. Itis important to sustain and protect the remaining dune edosyrtems and the vegetation ve vegetation from human impact an erosion. Rare plants depend on the sand dunes and the extreme climate to thrive. Educational signage and interpretive programming will educate the community. During the fall and winter boardwalks will be rolled up to allow the underlying dunes to naturally ebb and flow under normal dynamic fluctuations. Since its launch in June 2009, the Barth Day Canada Community Environment Fund has *wattled more than $1 million in to 69 community-based environmental initiatives across Ontario. This milestone comes on the heels of the latest round agnate that includes The Friends of Pinery Park 'We are so impressed with the creativity and variety of the projects that are now posatble as a result of this funding commitment from Sober; said Jed Goldberg, president of Earth Day Canada. *These organications' projects will not only benefit the environment but will also inspire positive environmental action in their local convmuntdes." Grants are awarded to applicants that demonstrate the greatest need idr Amdtng, the most innovation in addressing local environ- mental issues and the greatest likelihood of a sustainable impact in their local community. The Earth Day Canada Community Environ- ment Fund was established in June 2009 to provide financial support to assroots, not-for- profit profit organisations andocl al schools to develop sustainable projects that foster environmental educadon and action in com- munities across Ontario.
