Moving the sand on Main Beach
Many beach goers are curious as to why
the trucks are on the leach.
The Grand Bend Beach is a dynamic
beach that is subject to the influence of
Inds, currents, wave action and fluctuat-
.i ig lake levels. Over time these factors take
their toll on the beach, sweeping the sand
in a north easterly direction and leaving
the Main Beach nearest the pier with a
gravel type of consistancy, as a result
much of the sand on the the Main Beach
moves towards the North Beach.
Every 10 to 15 years or so Lambton
Shores need to move the sand that has
moved from the Main Beach to the North
Beach, back. This creates a more usable
and functional Main Beach.
One of the things we are hoping to
accomplish with the experimental Dune
Regeneration areas is retaining sand on
the Main Beach. 'These Dune Regenera-
tion areas are only in their formative
stages but as the Dune grasses grow and
develop we hope they will lessen the need
tt1make these major relocation of sand.
Grand Bend resident Bob Sharen sent
the municipality his concerns regarding
this equipment. In an e-mailed note to
(:AO John Byrne and also to the Lake-
shore Advance he asked, in 2010 a dump
trick floating a high hoe down Main Street
wasn't allowed. In 2011 another dump
truck was allowed to float a high hoe down
Main Street and off load the high hoe on
the beach parking lot and then traverse
the access to the beach proper. 'the trucks
and the high hoes are alxlut the same size.
Would you explain the difference to ire,
please" Byrne said, "The municipality
didn't prohibit the dump truck and high
hoe float from coining down Mail St. and
Government Road to the Art Blumas prop-
erty in 2010, it simply asked Mr. Bluunas to
provide a traffic plan for the excavation
work he was proposing to undertake, so
that traffic along this route and the leach
parking lots wouldn't he impeded as the
work was proix)seci to undertaken dur-
ing the peak leach season. It also asked for
assurances that the equipollent he
intended to transport to the site would not
damage the newly paved road and adja-
cent parking lot area. Mr. Blumas opted
not to provide this information and can-
celled his plans.ln 2011, arrangements
were made with the contractor the munic-
ipality engaged to address beach sand

inc along the way! I lowever, it sometimes
becomes difficult at tournaments for me.
'Ilhe line between moon and coach some-
times get's distorted and I need to take a
step back and support her as a mother and
leave the coaching to others. it will be a
wonderful moment this fall when we both

Going to Spain
Cathy explains that Emily gets to repre-
sent Canada in Spain at the end of Octo-
ber. The competition will take place in
Cadiz, Spain between October 31st and
November 5th. They are hoping to do
some fund-raising to help get her there.
ilnlike many other sports, the federal gov-
ernment does not provide funding to the
sport of karate. There are so many costs
involved in competing at this level -'Learn
Canada uniforms, transportation costs,
pccomnlodations, competition fees, meals
Must to name a few.
"We hope to get started with fund-rais-
ing early - some of our ideas are the same
as last year - car wash, bottle drive, and
selling pizza cards - all of which proved
very successful last year. We are so fortu-
nate to live in such a great, supportive
community as Grand Bend and are look-
ing forward to fund-raising once again. It
also helps to build excitement around the
event! We, as parents, and Emily as an ath-
lete, feel extremely privileged to be able to
represent Canada at the WKC World Karate
Championship" Cathy also says they are
open to other fund raising ideas if people
want to contact her at 519-2311-689;

disposition issues to ensure
that no outrage to the roads or

and the work proceeded."
Sharon then asked, "Our
records show that the devel-
oper, (Mr. Blumas), agreed to
the tinges of use of the road
system and the tinges. The
developer did not agree to the
planner's demand for an engi-
neer's report to satisfy the
planner's concern that the
street he of sufficient strength
to bear the weight of heavy
equipment. The developer
would not hire an engineer to
confirm that the municipality
had properly reconstructed
the Main Street and Govern-
ment Road. Please explain
why the different approach to
two different situations
involving heavy equipment
and Main Street.
Byrne concluded by telling
Sharen that, "'There is i10 differ-
ence in approach, in both
instances the Municiixdity took
measures to ensure that there
would be no damage to our
roads. Your statement that the
suggests that the municipality
requested to hire an engineer
to confirm the municipality

Main Street and Government

pality simply requested that
the engineer c onfinn that thea
would be no damage to the
roads from their proposed site
