On the back nine - Scatcherd
Classic celebrates 30 years
Lakeshore Advance
Oh what a day, screamed the head-
lines after the annual David Scatcherd
Invitational Classic on Jun2 22, 1983.
Cary Cowan shot eight under par 62
establishing a course record for Oak-
wood . CFPI:s Bill Brady was the victim
of the celebrity -roasted by his friends.
Brady worked extensively with handi-
capped children, was the Master of Cer-
emonies at the 1982 event, Other celeb-
rities that year were Bill Mahoney, new
coach for the Minnesota North Stars,
Sportscaster (lary Allen Price and Peter
Widdrington, president of John l.aBatts
Ltd., as well as Paul Beaston, president
of the'li)ronto Bine Jays.
There was a waiting list for this event.
Scatcherd said, "I would like to build a
large tournainent as an every year
event:' Ile impressed upon the fact that
this tournament could not happen with-
out the community response. The 2011
tournament celebrating 30 years and
Scatcherd's 75th birthday is being held
June 7 -8.
