Lakeshore Advance
The Huron County Branch of the
Ontario SPCA has recently taken on 8
dogs from an alleged puppy mill in
Muskoka region. Investigators from the
Muskoka Branch of the OSPCA put out
a plea to all branches of the OSPCA as
well as affiliated Humane Societies
across Ontario in early April. 'Ihey had
140 dogs that were being surrendered
by the owner after an investigation by
OSPCA agents and inspectors. The
response was swift and in several hours
animal welfare agencies from across the
province, including the Huron SPCA,

picked up their dogs and brought them
to their new temporary homes at par-
ticipating shelters. Eight dogs came to
I boron County.
The dogs, mostly Wheaton terriers,
schnauzers and poodles mixes had
been kept in very depressing condi-
tions. The dogs were filthy, urine
soaked and feces matted. Their coats
were so overgrown that all of the dogs
had to be shaved down and this often
took hours of slow and careful work by
volunteer groomers and staff. The dogs
were not well socialized and are slowly
learning to trust people, " These dogs
do not seem to know much about the
world outside and are sometimes star-
tled by birds chirping or cars driving
by," says Kara Gosleigh, manager of the
Iluron SPCA in Goderich. "They all
have very sweet personalities that are
slowly being revealed, they just need a
great deal of patience and kindness for
the dogs to become regular dogs," Gos-
leigh explained.
'Ihe dogs are being fostered at differ-
ent homes in the area, including Exeter.
If you might be interested in adopting
one of these or any other dog or cat,
