Huron dental clinics for families in need opened

Three new dental clinics are
opening for Huron County families
in need. The Iluron County Medical
Officer of Ilealth, Dr. Nancy Cam-
eron, cut the ribbon at the opening
of the Hensel! clinic on April 8.
Member of Provincial Parliament
for Iluron Bruce, Carol Mitchell,
and Executive Director of the Grand
Bend Area Community health
Centre, Dr. Glenn Bartlett, and Bill
Rowson, Vice Chair of the Board of
Health were also on hand for the
ceremony.
Last fall the Ontario goverrunent
announced a new no -cost dental
program which will help ensure that
eligible kids can establish and main-
tain good oral health. The new pro-
gram will ensure that children can
have regular visits with a dentist or
dental hygienist.
The Huron County Health Unit
has created three dental clinics
across the County in Wingham,
Clinton and Ilensall that will give
families living with low incomes
access to preventive services like
check-ups, cleaning, scaling, fluo-
ride, sealants and referrals for fill-
ings and x-rays.
Dr. Nancy Cameron, Medical
Officer of llealth says, "Good oral
health is important to our overall
health and well-being. Families
want what is best for their children.
Losing teeth because of dental
decay can have terrible effects on
how children grow and on their
speech. Getting dental check-ups is
one way to help stay healthy. Now
families in need in Iluron County
can get free dental services through
1lelping Iluron Smile."
'Ihe health unit is partnering with
the County of 1luron's Social Serv-
ices department to co-ordinate
access for families in need. Adults
and children living with low
incomes may qualify for one of the
free dental programs being offered
through the clinics.
'There is an eligibility process. The
health unit and Social Services will
he working together to make this an
easy process for families.
Urgent or emergency dental care
for kids 17 and under may also be
covered.
Families in need are encouraged
to call Helping Huron Smile at
Social Services at 1-888-371-5718.
