"Very simply put: quality of life is
the reason Kristin Ban is the new
pharmacist in 'Zurich. flaying lived
and worked in two Targe cities (Lon-
gton and 'Toronto), it was clear small
town pharmacy %vas for Illi'," says Ban.
In rural Ontario, allied health cure
professionals such as pharmacists are
often on the front lines of care. Ban
says rural community pharmacy gives
her the opportunity to practice her
pharmacy skills and apply the knowl-
edge a phtit'illitcist has in addition to
the traditional role of dispensing
medication. "Zurich Pharmacy is
well established in the community
but really nee'de'd some TLC. 1 saw it
as a challenge to bring hack some of
the business lost in previous year and
give back to the community.'
Ban is originally from Goderich.
Iter pharmacy exposure started while
in high-school working part time as a
pharmacy assistant at the Zehrs
1)rugStore Pharmacy in (;oderich.
She graduated Gl)C1 ((ioderich Dis-
trict Collegiate Institute) in 2003 and
moved to London to go to the Univer-
sity of Western Ontario in pursuit of a
Pharmacology/Toxicology degree.
"1 applied to the Leslie 1)an Faculty
of Pharmacy at the University of
Toronto in the third year of that
degree program and was accepted! I
then moved to 'Toronto to pursue my
degree in pharmacy. t graduated
troin University of 'Toronto with a
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in
lune 2010. 1 completed my exam and
licensing requirements last summer
and became a licensed pharmacist on
August 24, 2010," says 13nn.
The rural pharmacy
Mural pharmacy is extremely
important to residents, says Ban.
"Access and convenience are two
things my patients mention the most.
They find it comforting to see the
same face behind the counter, some-
one who knows their medications

"small • town" nature allows us at the
phut Inacy to give each patient the

tete residents of Zurich are working
hard to keep local businesses local.
An expanding pharmacy practice will
serve the residents of Bltiew;ttei' area
for years to come."

shooting guns in the adjacent prop-
erty while the St. Mary's students
were outside in the yard.
Officers attended at the location
and located the targets being used
for shooting pellets, Any stray shots
that missed the target were noted to
have been capable of striking pass-
ing vehicles or pedestrians on Sun -
