Lakeshore Advance
About 600 students from Huron and
Perth Counties are expected to converge
on Seaforth during their school day on
April 6 and 7 for the Huron Perth Agricul-
ture and Water Festival (HPAWF). It has
evolved from Slice of Huron, an agricul-
tural festival that started in 1992. "Our
theme Is educating students about agricul-
ture and water in their local environment,"
said Steve Bowers, Co -Chair.
The festival is a free fun and educational
event that provides students in Grades 3-5
with hands-on learning opportunities
about agriculture and water, their impor-
tance in our local environment, and role in
our everyday lives. A day at the
festival features morning sessions from
9•;,0 - 11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions
from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Popular entertainer
'Dickie Bird' (Richard Knechtel) will per-
form for students in the hall while they eat
their lunch.
Students spend a half day in each of the
water and agriculture focused activities.
Water activities deal with wise use, conser-
vation, and protection of our water
resources. Agriculture activities profile
various aspects of field crop and livestock
production. A farm safety message is
incorporated into all agriculture -related
activity centres. The people who make the
activities interactive, educational, and
entertaining are the same people who
work in the agriculture or water related
fields locally.
The IIPAWF is organized and delivered
by a committee of volunteers representing
a number of community organizations that
recognize the importance of agriculture,
