It has evolved from Slice of Huron, an agricul- tural festival that started in 1992. "Our theme Is educating students about agricul- ture and water in their local environment," said Steve Bowers, Co -Chair. The festival is a free fun and educational event that provides students in Grades 3-5 with hands-on learning opportunities about agriculture and water, their impor- tance in our local environment, and role in our everyday lives. A day at the festival features morning sessions from 9•;,0 - 11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Popular entertainer 'Dickie Bird' (Richard Knechtel) will per- form for students in the hall while they eat their lunch. Students spend a half day in each of the water and agriculture focused activities. Water activities deal with wise use, conser- vation, and protection of our water resources. Agriculture activities profile various aspects of field crop and livestock production. A farm safety message is incorporated into all agriculture -related activity centres. The people who make the activities interactive, educational, and entertaining are the same people who work in the agriculture or water related fields locally. The IIPAWF is organized and delivered by a committee of volunteers representing a number of community organizations that recognize the importance of agriculture, 1111 We depend entirely on contributions from the community and without their support it could not happen." —Erin Dolmage, Cornmittee Member water, and the environment to Huron and Perth counties, IIPAWF committee meets once a month starting in September, ensuring a well -organized and fun festival for students and teachers alike. Teachers attending also receive an HPAWF Teach- er's Guide with activities that can be used in the classroom prior to or following the festival. www.lakeshoreadvance.com HOME PLAN OF THE WEEK PLAN NUMBER 1-2443 CHARMING COTTAGE -STYLE HOME This charming cottage -style barns, designed for a lot that slopes to the beck, hes been carefulhy planned to maximize every centimetre of floorspace Tho entry leads to a foyer with a view through an archway Into tie great room lee, a OS limp nco Is flanked by burn In entertainment units Sliding doors open to n covered dirk lwerkxlkkag the tack garden At ono end of the great man, a railed stairwell leads down t0 the lxihnIshod basement included with the plans the dining area occupies Its own bayed -out are& with windows on three sides A doorway opens to the deck, part of which Is uncovered The covered area by the dlxlr will pnwkte an Ideal spot for yoarmund grlllln9 1he conk will never feel Isolated on ttlo kitchen, which is separated from the groat Aran aid deen9 area by a prep Island containing a sink Ample c(luntnr-space ix;ludes a computer desk, located next to a large walk -In pantry. the pantry opens to the laundry room, which doubles as a mud room and contains a bench with hooks above, for hanging outdoor clothing A broom cupboard and coat ckeet are Witted nearby To the right of the Myer is den that incItxdna a closet.
