Positive reaction for Grand Bend beach usage report

Lakeshore Advance
There was a lot of positive energy
at the Grand Bend Legion last week
as the Lambton Shores Public
Information Centre (PIC) regarding
the Grand Bend beach consultant
initiative.
Montleth and Brown Planning
were on hand to explain the infor-
mation boards and to answer
questions.
The Municipality of Lambton
Shores is undertaking a study to
determine what uses should be
permitted on the beach. This
public consultation was held to
receive public input on what activi-
ties and uses should be allowed on
the beach, including service club
events, not for profit events, and
commercial events.
Mayor Bill Weber said this study
comes after residents expressed
concern over the effects of events
like beach volleyball and Burger -
fest. He hoped the study would
address these concerns. After the
meeting he said he thought it was
very well attended with a broad
range of residents and businesses
represented.
As I chatted with people coming
away from the display boards the
comments 1 received where of a
positive nature. Saying it looked
like a good balanced report. !teach
operating practices, infrastructure,
ecological and environment as well
as partnerships were all discussed
in the report that can be seen in full
on the municipal website.
()ne theme that was loud and
clear from most was the desire to
retnove the dune grass that is grow-
ing on the main beach. It was sug-
gested this space could be used for
events and If needed, move the
grass to the area between the beach
house and Beach Condos.
Grand Bend Chamber president
Brianne l laiste said, "We were very
encouraged with how the presenta-
tion was laid out, and the informa-
tion that has been provided. We
look forward to working with the
municipal government to create
economic development, and drive
tourism back to where it once
was;'
Mary 10 Schottroff -Snopko from
Pinedale Motor Inn said there are
many groups to be appeased and
the consultants did an excellent Job
to help make that happen.
