The CFAs are a well -kept secret in Huron Counter. If you have questions about healthy eating, food prepa- ration or safe food handling, Com- munity Food Advisors can help. This group of dedicated volunteers have extensive training and work closely with the Huron County Health Unit Registered Dietitian, Amy MacDonald, and Volunteer Coordinator, Gail Fraser, to provide information and resources to the public through presenta- dons and food demonstrations. In Zurich, at Blessings, the CFAs are working in conjunction with them, the Registered Dietitian from the Grand Bend Community Health Centre to offer a "Cooking out of the Box" demonstration (what can you make with the Good Food Box contents?) Some of the more popular topics Include: Cooking for 1 or 2, healthy eating for all ages, healthy eating on a budget, healthy snacks, eating well with Canada's Food Guide, safe food handling and recently, there has been an interest in 'Selecting and Prepar- ing Local Foods' and 'Cooking from the Good Food Box/Food Bank, Each CFA is required to participate in educational updates. This past year they have had training on lowering Sodium in your diet, how to do an effective presentation, access to healthy food, and how to cook nutritiously from the good food box and food banks. At Blessings in Zurich Miranda Burgess, Registered Dletitican, Grand Bend Community Health Centre, and Cindy Bos, Community Food Advisor with Gracie Watson (front) from Zurich was part of the CFA's Nutrition Month placements. Miranda and Cindy fasted a "Cooking out of the Box" presentation where they made two types of salads table and using items(vegefrom the Good fruit) Food Box and Blessing's Food Bank.
