welcomes new members from throughout county

The Huron Tourism Association
(HTA) hasannounced its new board for
2011. The local tourism promotion
organizationdirectors include tourism
marketing professionals from through-
out Huron County,and represent
diverse tourism attractions of Ontario's
West Coast.
The fourteen -member board includes
TimCumming (Ausable Bayfield Con-
servation Authority), President; Bob
Marshall(Tourism Goderich Manager),
First Vice President; Laurie Ginn (Shel-
ter ValleyCatnpground), Second Vice
President; Heather Black (Blyth Festival
Marketing andDeveloptnent); Mary
Cardiff (Director, Huron Country Play-
house); Susan Mills(Grand Bend Cham-
ber of Commerce Tourism Manager);
Connie Goodall (North lluronCommu-
nity Development Coordinator); Liz
Ihrig (Hessenland Country Inn); Jen-

tough Job as he follows a master mar-
keter, Karen Stewart(formerly of Blyth
Festival), who has stepped down as
President. "Karen will besorely missed
as she combined marketing skills,
financial skills, and knowledgeof thea-
tre and cultural attractions" Cumming
said. "My job will be to expandupon the
work Karen has done bringing tourists
to the dining, accommodation,theatre,
museum, culture, sporting, nature, and
other attractions in all oflluron Coun-
ty's destination municipalities."
Tourism is one of the main pillars of
thelluron County econotny - along
with agriculture, manufacturing, and
the culturalsector.
There is great value in becoming a
member oflITA, according to the new
president. "Businesses pay an afforda-
ble menlbershipfee and the value of
that investment gets multiplied," he
said. "Their supportof the association
demonstrates their commitment to the
tourism industry andthat support for
tourism growth results in matching
marketing dollars from theCounty of
Huron, and that business and county
support - along with provincialand
local partnerships - results in market-
ing breadth and success at a scale noor-
ganization or business could obtain on
their own."
Ihe association has begun strength-
entngpartnerships with other adjacent
tourism organizations as well as eco-
nomicdevelopment organizations in
diverse areas of the county, according

ning showcasesof the county including Taste of Huron and „
Doors Open Haunted Huron.
One of the year's biggest events is theannual Tourism Event
and Brochure Swap. Mat is the industry's largestopportunity
to network, engage in professional development, showcase
tourismsuccesses, and unveil the year's new promotional
materials in advance of the spring-sutnmertourism season.
'Ihe 22nd Annual Tourism Event takes place this yearin Sea -
forth, on 'Ihursday, April 28, 2011.
Each year the association also showcases oneof the delec-
table fine dining establishments of the county. This, too, has
beenone of the year's highlights for tourism businesses and
partners. 'This year'sdinner is tentatively scheduled for Thurs-
