Bonnell) got engaged shortly before
Eamon was called to serve in Afghani-
stan and they were married in 2009.
"We are honoured that Terry
O'Rourke will be special guest," said
Conservation Dinner Committee Chair
Bob Gehan, of the Exeter Lions Club.
"Having Terry take part that night will
be a powerful addition to an evening
that is already shaping up to be very
ABCA special indeed."
Lakeshore Advance Veterans and conservation have been
closely linked in Ontario history. A
number of veterans returning from the
Second World War were involved in the
infancy of conservation authorities,
which began in 1946.
The Conservation Dinner is a com-
munity effort by the Exeter Lions Club,
Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foun-
dation, the ARCA, donors, patrons, and
volunteers. Me gala charitable auction
of original art and memorabilia features
a live auction, silent auction, special
raffles, general raffles, a wonderful
meal, an honoured feature artist, and
an honoured special guest. The event
supports accessible trails, conservation
education, stocking the reservoir with
fish for the family fishing derby, com-
memorative woods to improve forest
conditions and remember loved ones,
and other conservation projects that
would not happen without your
support.
This year's auction includes some
amazing auction items from art to one -
of -a -kind celebrity memorabilia. One
of the most coveted auction items this
year promises to be two return Econ-
omy/Sleeper Class tickets for train
travel between London and Halifax,

The 22nd Ausable Bayfield Conserva-
tion Dinner takes place Thursday, April
14, 2011 at South Huron Recreation
Centre in Exeter. Tickets are $50 each
and purchasers receive a $25 charitable
gift receipt for income tax purposes. To
donate to the dinner, or to purchase
tickets, phone 519-235-2610 or toil -free

The Conservation Dinner committee
has announced that the 2011 Special
Guest for the gala charitable auction is
Terry O'Rourke. The Exeter man, and
former high school physical education
teacher, is the father of Afghanistan vet-
eran Corporal Eamon O'Rourke. This
year's special guest will bring remarks
as a parent of a soldier from the ranks
of the current generation of Canadian
veterans.
Terry O'Rourke and his wife Jean
have four children, Meaghan, Kieran,
Eamon and Mairead. Eamon, 24, is sta-
tioned with the Royal Canadian Dra-
goons at Canadian Forces Base Pete -
wawa. He has served four years with
that Canadian armour regiment.
Eamon completed a tour of duty in
Afghanistan from 2008 - 2009. "The
tour he was on was particularly diffi-
cult," his father shares. His son's regi-
ment spent a great deal of time in vul-
nerable situations "outside the wire"
- outside the operating base - and his
son lost comrades he knew while he
was there.
Terry says he's proud to represent his
son and to represent the perspective of
one of the parents of one of the local
veterans. "It's realty an honour to repre-
sent Eamon and represent the parents
of modern-day veterans, he said. "I
think it's important to recognize our
veterans."
Eamon is currently taking his Master
Corporal training and will be unable to
attend the April 14 charitable gala but
the Exeter native has expressed his
thanks to the committee for honouring
him and other veterans from South
Huron and throughout the country.
Eamon O'Rourke has a close connec-
tion to conservation, having success-
fully completed two co-op placements
with Ausable Bayfield Conservation
Authority (ABCA). "He liked being out-
side, he liked being active and ABCA
provided that," his father recalled.
Eamon is continuing his interest in
nature as an avid canoeist and camper
at Algonquin Provincial Park when he
is on leave. Eamon and Melissa (nese
