Not the best season for the Dirty Dogs
Senior AA hockey club but Lambton
Shores wants to help them get back on
track.
In a delegation to council February 22,
Shawn Dickey, the club's president said
this Club has found themselves in a situa-
tion of financial despair since their "abol-
ishment from the Thedford Bosanquet
Community Center" due to the building of
the Legacy Centre. Ile was asking for reim-
bursement of what was lost in the past sea-
son. "When we started our Club, we knew
that it was going to take a few years before
we were going to be successful, both finan-
cially and competitively on the ice," said
Dickey adding last year was a year they
were seeing progress financially and suc-
cess on the ice as well. Now with the 2010-
11 season behind them- they are back at
square one.
Once the club realized they would not
be able to use the Medford ice this season,
as they were assured would happen- it was
too late to find ice anywhere but Exeter.
"While we were in Medford we enjoyed
the attendance of an average of 83 fans,
while in Exeter we have seen our attend-
ance plummet to a measly 18 fans. Attend-
ance, being the number one source of rev-
enue for the Club, has almost put the Club
to the folding point. Our commitment of
sponsorship for the 2010-2011 season fell
almost $2,800 when we finalized our
schedule in Exeter" said Dickey.
According to Dickey, an estimated
$5,070 in attendance was lost, $4,940 in bar
revenue lost plus the $2,800 in sponsor-
ship lost for an estimated total loss of
$ 12,810.
