Take ACTion! video contest to stop substance misuse
Lakeshore Advance
A catnera, a bit of creativity and
some incentive may be enough to
shift the direction of substance
misuse in Sarnia-Lambton.
From now until March 31,
aspiring filtnnlakers in Lambton
County can create awareness
about the risks and consequences
of substance misuse by entering
the Take ACTion! Video contest
sponsored by the Ontario Associa-
tion of Chiefs of Police and
Lambton Drug Awareness Action
Committee (LDAAC).
"Video can be a powerful tool to
convey a message to youth, especial
when the message comes from a pee
e.
Easterby, Health Promoter
with the County of Lambton Commu-
nity Health Services Department, and
a member of LDAAC. "Youth have the
power to impact peers' behaviour and
can create meaningful change for
themselves, families and their
community:'
Easterby adds "When it conies to
educating students about substance
misuse prevention, varying the
approach is important because the
issues don't lie within one specific
age group or grade. This project
gives youth the tools to connect
with their peers about the benefits
for drug-free living and healthy life-
style choices. It also gives them a
chance to show off their talent."
The video contest is open to all
students in elementary and sec-
ondary school in Sarnia-Lambton.
The video must promote a sub-
stance misuse prevention message
such as (but not limited to):
Effects of substance misuse
■ Impact substance misuse has on
people, families and society
■ Ways to say "No"
■ Risks and consequences of
alcohol and other drugs
The deadline to enter is March
31, 2011, i'op prize in each category
is $200.
