Lakeshore Advance
New Lampton County warden Steve
Arnold stopped by (rand Bend for a
visit last Friday.
Before being elected, Arnold said that
stronger ties between the county and
lower -tier municipalities would be one
of his top priorities if elected by his
peers at county council to be the
warden. And the furthest community
north is a good place to begin.
The Lakeshore Advance invited the
long time politician to the Village to talk
to some of the locals and explain what
his job entails.
This St. Clair mayor and long time
politician was right at home as coffee
drinkers asked about commercial taxes
and Tourism Sarnia Lampton.
Arnold's position as warden allows for
many opportunities to check out the
rest of the county -but on an invitation
only basis. But it is not only social
engagements, he sincerely wants to help
tile lower tier in their progress.
Ile says the warden has a role to play
in helping municipalities as they
approach other levels of government
with their problems.
"1 want to make sure there are oppor-
tunities for all municipalities ... when
they're slaking presentations to the
federal government or provincial gov-
ernment with them, to know they have
someone else with them in a position of
authority -. the warden - ...to bring the
importance of those issues when it
comes to infrastructure dollars."

Dollars for Legacy Centre
Arnold says that will become more
important as the current federal/
provincial economic stimulus program
comes to a close in 2011.
"Everyone knows those dollars are
going to be harder to come by," he says.
"It's not going to be impossible but
where it will take more work on behalf
of all of us to bring those infrastructure
dollars in, including the county. 1 think
the warded should take a very active
role in helping municipalities do those
types of things"
County council, Made up of
representatives of Sarnia-l.ambton's 11
municipalities, is responsible for a
$164 -million annual budget that funds
a long list of services, including
ambulances, public health, public
housing, three homes for the aged,
