Headlines for 2010 began with a blaze that broke out in
Clinton and ended with snore snow than many of us desire. It
has been a year of trials and tribulations for many. The politi-
cal scene was a hot seat and the entertainment world a blast.
Checking back to this past year gave us pause to reflect on the
good, the bad and the "thank goodness that year is over."
JANUARY 2010
JANUARY -Central Huron's volunteer firefighters battled a
blaze that broke out early this morning in one of Clinton's
historic downtown buildings. Clinton's main street and most
of its core businesses are closed due to the fire, which has
consumed the Salvation Army food bank and thrift store.
JANUARY -While Environment Canada was calling it a
"downburst, the residents of Hensall who grabbed their kids
and headed for the basement are sure they were hit by a tor-
nado last Wednesday at around 3 p.m.Kathleen Waring says
she and her niece Marria Frayne were sitting on the porch of
Frayne's King Street home when the sky went "an eerie -look -

FEBRUARY -From small town Ontario to India was huge for
three of I lensll's Iceculture staffers.
Earlier this month an lceculture teem of seven returned
from India where they spent 12 days installing the first ice
lounge in the country in a shopping complex in New Delhi.
Part of the tenth was made up of josh liummel, Adam Steffler
and Gerald Mason. ']hese three guys play a big part in getting
the ice to where it needs to be.
FEBRUARY-Benguin will be carrying the torch for the 2010
Grand Bend Winter Carnival. This year's events begin with an
opening ceremony on Feb. 4 and there will be two weekends
of Olympic fun for the entire family.
FEBRUARY -Desire, dedication determination for long term
athletic development, that is what icon skating coach Kathy
Merner Mcl.lwain is all about. The Exeter woman talks about
how inspiring and motivating the olympic gold winners Scott
Moir and Tessa Virtue are, not only to her profession but for
all sports. Mcl,hvain has been part of the skating world for

and figure skating. She is a motivational speaker for aft,
spending five minutes with her -you know why.
"We are building champion athletes, human beings , build-
ing people, she says adding, "Not every athlete becomes a
champion in their sport, but through the lessons In sport,
they will become champions in life" There are few athletes in
this area who have not been affected by her life skills.

MARCI1--We knew it was great and now, so does Ontario
Parks and Recreation. 'Thursday the Municipality of 1.nmbton
Shores was notified that Grand Bend Beach Enhancement
has been named a recipient of the 2010 PRO Excellence in
Design Award. The Project was nominated by Ashley Albert
from the Municipality of Lambton Shores. "Our committee,
board members and staff, are extremely Impressed with the
contributions the Expansion has made to the sector and your
community," stated a letter to l.ambton Shores CAO John
Byrne.
"1 am thrilled with the announcement of this award, it
brings great credit to the Grand Bend community. The whole
community worked hard to make this happen, especially the
Beach Enhancement Steering Committee, chaired by Coun-
cillor John Dehondt, with members, Councillor Bill Weber,
Councillor Mark Simpson, Shirley Andraxa, Jim McCoy, Ron
Holmes, Donna I laykus and Craig Scott a special thanks to
Dr. Jim Jean and Jim Southcott and their fundraising team for
helping to make this a reality.
MARC11-Stimulus dollars from 2009 applications are still
flowing and the Pinery Provincial Park got $8,825,000. from a
joint federal and provincial windfall. The funding will
enhance the upgrade and extend the park's trails; rehabilitate
the road network throughout the park and renovate the park's
infrastructure.
