Arlie (Sanders) Saunders grew up
in (,rand Bend with her sister Kim
Case and brother Jerry, She is the
daughter of long-time owner of
Sanders 'Lavern Jerry Sanders and
Ma(llyne Sanders Dean and As an
adult she moved away and was diag-
nosed with MS on July 26, 1991 and
has now progressed with this dis-
ease to the point she is housed in a
long term care facility, no longer
able to look after her two children.
"This has been devastating for our
families," says King adding that hope
AMA
has come to theta with the
news that their sister is a candidate
for CCSVI (Chronic Cerebrospinal
Venous Insufficiency) surgery that,
at this point, would be available to
her only in New York State. "'Phis
surgery has shown great results in
allowing MS patients the ability to
regain some of their independence
and quality of life. O}11P does not
cover any of the costs for this proce-
dure so at this time we find it neces-
sary to do an aggressive fundraiser.
Estimated costs at this time would
be around $10,000.00:'
Arlie says her arms are getting
extremely weaker and she need to
-
use lifts to get in and out of bed or
into her electric wheelchair. "I heard
about I)r, Paolo 'lambonl discovery
culled Chronic Cerebrospinal
Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI), a
reported abnormality in blood
drainage from the brain and spinal
coni, which may contribute to nerv-
ous system damage in MS and there
have been positive results from this
surgery."
So, not to be deterred by the cost,
this family has created a fundraiser
for January 15thth at the Grand Bend
Legion. Tickets are a mere $25.O0.
