MINOR LOCALS.
— Good spring weather this week.
The sugar making seaeon has
opened.
—Col. John Scott of Walkerton, has
been appointed judge for Lanark county.
— John lianlyn, a pioneer resident of
Cioderieli, died on Friday last, in his
92nd year.
—Keep the date, April 21st, open for
the concert in aid el' the Hospital under
the auspices ef the Ladies' Auxiliary.
— There is a possibility of a local op-
tion contest in Stratford next January
and a vote on the Canada Temperance
Act in Perth County in the fall.
• •—The Ladies' Auxiliary of the Wing -
barn General Hospital intond holding a
concert in aid of the hospital work on
April 21st Watch for particulars later.
—Mr Jas. Henderson, of the Blue -
vale road continues in very poorhealth.
Mr. Henderson has a large circle of
friends who are very sorry to hear of
his continued iilness.
—At the annual Supreme convention
of the Canadian Home Circles, held in
Hamilton last week, Rev. Dr. T. S.
Boyle, formerly of Wingham, was elec-
ted as Supreme Leader.
—Mr. and Mrs. Wm. C. Homuth of
Turnberry will have the sincere sym-
pathy of the community in the death of
Saturday of their son, Harry A. Hom-
uth, aged 3 years and 7 months.
—The members of Court Maitland,
Canadian Order of Foresters will hold a
progressive euchre party on Friday
evening, March 27th. All members of
the Order are invited to attend.
—We are pleased to report that Mr.
Oliver Thompson, who underwent an
operation for appendicitis last week is
doing nicely and expects to be able to
leave the hospital in a few days.
—While on his way to Wingham from
Tilbury, on Tuesday, Mr Edward Cor-
bett was taken seriously ill with pneu-
monia and was taken to the hospital
at St. Thomas. Mrs. Corbett left on
Wednesday morning for St. Thomas to
Ie with ber husband.
— At Clinton, on Thursday, Jack
Steep, a hostler at Graham's hotel in
Clinton. was 'tided $100 and costs for
selling a bottle of whiskey. The cases
agairst Reuben Graham and James
Burns were adjourned for a week.
—Mr. D. Watters, of St. Thomas
and a former well-known resident of
Wingham, has purchased a boot and
shoe business at Atwood. Mr. Watters
has a large circle of friends here who
will wish him success in his new busi-
ness.
—A blue book tabled in the Commons
on Monday, giving a list of unclaimed
bank balances in Canadian banks at the
end of 1912, shows that over C;')759,000 is
lying to the credit of various persons
who have apparently forgotten all about
it. The total amount is larger by $129,-
-000 than at the end of 1911.

Temperance people of Welland Coun-
ty have issued a writ asking that there -
cent Canada Temperance Act election
in that eounty be voided because of the
improper ballot and irregularities at the
polls, and for a declaration that another
vote may be taken at any time. The
case will be tried before a Supreme
Court Judge.
