- The Dungannon 149th Fair took place Aug. 7-9. "There is something
for everyone," said Kelly Thomson president of the Dungannon
Agricultural Society. "The fair brings the community together and
hopefully the weather will cooperate this weekend."
- After 150 years, the Point Clark Lighthouse still stands tall and proud
representing years of marine heritage. To celebrate the milestone,
Friends of the Point Clark Lighthouse organized a family event Aug.
14- 16.
Lucknow's 2008 Fall Fair Ambassador, Mackenzie Carruthers com-
peted at the Ambassador of the Fairs at the CNE, Aug. 21 to, 23.
- The inaugural Lucknow Music in the Fields was a rousing success
as people packed the Lucknow soccer fields on Saturday, Aug. 22.
September
- rnw Lucknow and District Fire Department responded to a fire at
472 Willoughby Street The house of Ron and Heather Stewart was
full of smoke and the rear of downstairs and the upstairs were both
'rattily damaged by the fire. Firefighters were on scene until 1 a.m.
Monday morning. Foitunately the Stewart family was not home at the
time of the fire.
The Lucknow Agricultural Society marked its 146th Lucknow Fall
Fair, Sept. 18 to 20. A great lineup of events was planned for the whole
family, with the theme being, "Dairy More than Milk!"
- People were promised a "Beary Berry Good Time at the 146th
Ripley -Huron Fall Fair, Sept. 25 to 26. - •
- For her 1 Oth birthday, Jessica Nelson decided instead of presents, she
would have her birthday guests donate money to help towards tuition,
books, supplies and uniforms for a school in Ghana (West Africa). The
group managed to raise $500.
October
- Since opening on Sept. 14 Jenna Hart's dance studio, Danceology
had been getting an influx of interested dancers. Hart said in addition
to Lucknow, she ,was getting students from Ripley, Teeswater and
Wingham.
- Jennifer MacKinnon, who grew up in the Lucknow area, took part
in the movie Amelia, that was shot in 2007 and starred Hilary Swank
and Richard Gere.
- In a unanimous vote, Brockton Mayor Charlie Bagnato won the
Federal Liberal nomination for the Huron-Bruceriding, which took
place at the Lucknow Community Centre on Oct. 15. Also miming for
the nomination were Dr. Maarten, Bokhout, of Clinton, and Deb
Homuth, of Exeter.
November
- The tall tree that stood outside the South Kinloss Presbyterian
Church for almost 100 years was cut down on Oct. 29. The tree had
been around since the new church was constructed in 1912, but had
grown rotten in places 'and people were afraid it might crash through
the large stained glass window in the front of the *church.
- Jess Gilchrist won the Queen's \ Guineas at the Royal Agricultural
Wmter Fair beef show in Toronto. Prince Charles and Duchess
Camilla presented her with her banner as grand champion.
- A large gathering of people came out on Remembrance Day, Nov.
11 to pay their respects to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in war.
- Music in the Fields co-chairs Rick McMurray and Ken Irwin spoke
to Huron -Kinloss Twp. council outlining highlights of the Aug. 22
country music show and requested the to*nship's support for next
year's event.
December
- The Lucknow Intermediate Girls won the International Silver Stick
tournament in Port Elgin.
- Mr. and Mrs. Sdnta Claus waved to a large crowd of people during
the .Lucknow Santa Claus Parade on Nov. 27. Lots of eager children
waited in line to get a chance to see Santa in the arena.
- Well known in Lucknow for his strong ties to the community,
Donald Campbell Thompson passed away on Dec. 2. He was highly
regarded for his dedication to the Lucknow Sentinel from 1953 until
it was sold to Signal Star Publishing of Goderich in 1977.
- In the N year history of the Wingliam Atom Silver Stick tournament,
no team from Lucknow had claimed the tournament title until the
Sepoy Atoms won it with an impressive 5 - 4 win over Bruce
Peninsu!
