County hopes
to accommodate
Port Albert air
force collection.
BY CHERYL HEATH
Clinton News -Record Staff
Huron County is prepared
to take a step forward in
addressing the long out-
standing issue of whether
the county museum can
accommodate a Port Albert
--Valid-ea§ -expansive Port
Albert air force memorabilia
collection.
Beth Ross, the county's
cultural services director,
notes at the county council
meeting last week that sev-
eral issues need to be
addressed before the collec-
tion can be accommodated.
Yet, she says, it makes sense
to begin working with inter-
ested stakeholders to create
a space for Eugene McGee's
collection.
As it stands, she notes, the
sentiment seems to be lean-
ing towards housing the col-
lection at the Sky Harbour
Gallery at the Goderich air-
port
After some debate, Coun.
Ken Oke (South Huron)
crafted a motion to allow for
county staff to move for-
ward on the project
"I do believe we should
move ahead and address this
collection as part of our his-
tory."
Coun. Ben Van
Diepenbeek (ACW) says
one step in the right dime-
' don is to draft a letter to the
Town of Goderich from the
county since the town owns
the airport.
Meanwhile, the CAO

notes the cultural services
department notes three areas
must be addressed before
the project moves forward.
First, the donation must
come in, second, the county
must work with Goderich
and interested stakeholders
and third, the museum will
pledge to host the exhibit at
a future date.
After Coun. Bill Dowson
(Bluewater) called the qua -
tion, Coun. John Bezaire
(Central Huron) requested a
recorded vote. In the end, all
the councillors present sup-
ported the motion as read.
OMPF announcements
The county's CAO is
• reporting that there doesn't
appear to be any "good
news" forthcoming from the
Ontario Municipal
Partnership Fund grants
announced Dec. 15. In all,
say Larry Adams, the coun-
ty's Chief Administrative
Officer, the county is losing
1 per cent of its grants, total-
ing about $300,000, for
2010.
Coyote hunting
Van Diepenbeek reports
the county's aniinal-control
officer has been told a series
of new protocols at the
Ministry of Natural
Resources level is making it
more difficult to orchestrate
coyote hunts.
"That's news- to me," says
Adams, who pledges to fur-
ther check into the matter
and report back to county
council in the New Year.
