UCW annual potluck
The Lucknow UCW after-
noon group enjoyed their annual
potluck luncheon and meeting
recently at the church hall with
12 members present.
Deanna Reavie led the meet-
ing through the business.
Minutes were approved, Shirley
Bolt gave the treasurer's report
and 'rollcall was donations_ for
the Christmas Bureau.
Helen Cleland read the Least
Coin newsletter about Canada's
increasing battered women and
shelters and recover programs.
Happy birthday was sung to
the one December . birthday,
Nancy Walden.
The potluck program saw
members offer.a delightful cross
section of poems, articles and
memories about Christmas, one
room school Christmas con-
certs, the `perfect' Christmas,
hoNy to have a `successful'
Christmas, humorous wedding
stories from Bruce County min-
isters, grandmothers -according
to kids, angel ' pennies, God's
lore and Christmas wonder. •
A dramatic reading had five
members giving possible First
Christmas perspectives of the
Shepherd, Joseph, Mary, the
innkeeper's wife and one of the
wisemen.
Karen Latour and Rev. Candy
covered some announcements
including White Gift Sunday
and the Sunday School concert.
The . meeting closed with the::.
UCW Benediction.
Women with a Mission
The UCW group, Women
with a Mission, recently held
their Christmas meeting in the
church parlour.
Marlene Struthers welcomed.
everyone. An Advent candle -
lighting, based on hospitality,
was carried out by Betty Bone,
Barb Helm and Marlene.
Candles of Hope, Peace, Joy and
Love were lit. The ham,
'Hope is a Star' and '0 Come All
Ye Faitlul' were accompanied
by Laura Lee Cayley.
Barb Helm performed a short
dialogue "Why Me" in which
Mary wondered why she was
chosen as the mother of the
promised Messiah. Betty read
the Scripture Luke 1: 49 55.
Marlene followed with
a
Christmas choral reading
"Because he cares".
Guest vocalists, Barb and
Evan Helm sang 'A Candle is
Burning' and The Little
Drummer Boy' . A humorous skit
"Who says God doesn't like
fruitcake" about the best
Christmas celebration for their
church, was performed by Barb,
Betty and Marlene:
Karen Allen opened the busi-
ness portion of the meeting with
a prayer for Christmas. Rollcall
was answered by 15 members.
The minutes, treasurer's report
and various other reports were
given. The meeting closed with
the UCW Benediction followed
by everyone enjoying a festive
and tasty snack.
