Hackett has a lot of career options for future
Doctor, journalist, florist,
entrepreneur. • The career
options out there are endless.
So how on earth am I sup-
posed to narrow down those
options to figure out what I
want to do? Through co-oper-
ative education is the answer.
My name . is Emma Hackett
and I am a Grade 12 student at
F.E. Madill Secondary School.
I am currentlydoing my co-
op placement at the Wingham
and District Hospital. I ani a
. part of a rotation that 'will
allow me to experience many
of the different areas of the
hospital. I have always been
interested in health care but
• wasnever sure of what field to
pursue. By participating in co-
op, I have the opportunity to
find out if this is the right
choice for me. By doing this
placement in my fifth year of
high school, I will be able to
adjust my plans for post -sec-
ondary school accordingly.
Now how did I. become
involved in this you may ask?
I became aware of co-opera-
tive education when I started
high school. I have always
thought it would be a great
idea for me to participate in
the program to ensure that I
would be heading in the right
direction when I apply to uni-
versity. I signed up for co-op
during .my course selection
last year. After that, I had two
interviews to secure my spot at
the hospital.
My rotation started in the
operating room• at, the begin-
ning of the school year. I
spent a month there learning
the ropes and really enjoyed it.
Everything about the OR
interests me. I have now start-
ed the second part of my rota-
tion on ' the second floor in
patient services. The staff in
both departments are very
friendly and do not hesitate to
answer any of my questions.
They are all making my place-
ment here even more enjoy-
able. I am looking forward to
my time in the Emergency
Room and Diagnostic Imaging
as well. I spend about three
hours every morning at the
hospital and will be doing so
until January when 1 unfortu-
nately haveto go back to class
full time.
Every morning when I wake
up, I look forward to coming
to work at the hospital. am
glad to know that when I walk
through those doors that I will
be greeted by lots of friendly
faces. I _ know that there : will
always be something new for
me to learn'or do. Health care
is a fast -paced and fascinating
field that is always changing.

Thank you to all of the staff at
the Wingham and District
Hospital who have helped me
realize that the health care
field is where I want to be.

Part of the snowmobile trail north of South
Kinloss Ave. had to be re-routed due to con-
struction of a new house on the former trail.
The new trail now runs through a Bruce County
forest then into Edward Martin's bush before
resuming back onto the old route. Considerable
work had to be done to achieve this thanks to
Lloyd Collins Construction Ltd. Chad Mann who
'provided a bulldozer and high hoe to remove
tree stumps and install two culverts. = Bruce
County forestry technician Ken Goldsmith pro-
vided assistance in the path we took, and with
the help of Wayne and Laurie Bell and Steve
and Lynne Mann we now have a much , improved
section of snowmobile trail.
