So how on earth am I sup- posed to narrow down those options to figure out what I want to do? Through co-oper- ative education is the answer. My name . is Emma Hackett and I am a Grade 12 student at F.E. Madill Secondary School. I am currentlydoing my co- op placement at the Wingham and District Hospital. I ani a . part of a rotation that 'will allow me to experience many of the different areas of the hospital. I have always been interested in health care but • wasnever sure of what field to pursue. By participating in co- op, I have the opportunity to find out if this is the right choice for me. By doing this placement in my fifth year of high school, I will be able to adjust my plans for post -sec- ondary school accordingly. Now how did I. become involved in this you may ask? I became aware of co-opera- tive education when I started high school. I have always thought it would be a great idea for me to participate in the program to ensure that I would be heading in the right direction when I apply to uni- versity. I signed up for co-op during .my course selection last year. After that, I had two interviews to secure my spot at the hospital. My rotation started in the operating room• at, the begin- ning of the school year. I spent a month there learning the ropes and really enjoyed it. Everything about the OR interests me. I have now start- ed the second part of my rota- tion on ' the second floor in patient services. The staff in both departments are very friendly and do not hesitate to answer any of my questions. They are all making my place- ment here even more enjoy- able. I am looking forward to my time in the Emergency Room and Diagnostic Imaging as well. I spend about three hours every morning at the hospital and will be doing so until January when 1 unfortu- nately haveto go back to class full time. Every morning when I wake up, I look forward to coming to work at the hospital. am glad to know that when I walk through those doors that I will be greeted by lots of friendly faces. I _ know that there : will always be something new for me to learn'or do. Submitted photo Part of the snowmobile trail north of South Kinloss Ave. had to be re-routed due to con- struction of a new house on the former trail. The new trail now runs through a Bruce County forest then into Edward Martin's bush before resuming back onto the old route. Considerable work had to be done to achieve this thanks to Lloyd Collins Construction Ltd.
